Yoexplore– Family Vacation, Traveling to Bali with children is a very fascinating thing to do. You can take your child to see the beauty of the other part of the world and let them learn from the new culture they meet. However, traveling to Bali with children has its own challenges such as how will they adjust to the climate in Bali and how will you be able to make your child enjoy the experiences. You can overcome the problem by knowing what to expect and what to pack.

We all expect that we would have perfect vacations, however, there is also a chance that you might encounter the health problem in during your vacations. I would like to inform you about the common health problems that might occur when you are traveling to Bali with children and how to prevent or overcome them.

Traveler’s Diarrhea

Traveler’s Diarrhea is a very common disease encountered by travelers. It can be caused by the stress of traveling, diet change, or infection. Traveler’s diarrhea usually very unpleasant, but it is not really serious unless you get a high fever, persistent vomiting, bloody feces, decreased urine volume (decreased amount of wet diapers in toddlers). You should also be alerted if you find dehydration symptom when you get the traveler’s diarrhea.

When you are traveling to Bali with children, your chance to get this disease are lower if you stay in the south area. If you stay in the north or East Bali, this chance can be bigger due to the hotter climate. This diseases usually will disappear without any medical treatment.

Pay attention if your children get this disease because children tend to get dehydration faster. Call the doctor immediately if your children get diarrhea with constant vomiting. The doctor will give the medical treatment and refer to the medical facility if necessary. Something you can do to overcome this problem is to consult your doctor before going to Bali. Your doctor will give you the instruction or medicine to overcome the symptom in an early stage if necessary.

Cerumen Blockage- Traveling to Bali with children

What can be more interesting for young children than playing with water? Their love to play with water sometimes get them to a problem: cerumen blockage. This is also a very common disease for the traveler of any age. This health problem is very annoying because it caused severe pain in the ear and head. Cerumen or earwax is a natural secretion made by your ear. One of the function is to protect your ear canal by catching dirt and slowing the bacteria growth. Naturally, this wax will be washed away. In some people, the wax is become hard and cannot we washed away naturally.

When the water enters the ear canal, the accumulated wax then absorb the water and expanded. It will fill the ear canal and create unpleasant symptoms. The symptoms such as earache, fullness feeling in the affected ears, decreased hearing ability, and dizziness. When traveling to Bali with children, you will need to visit an ENT specialist to help you with this problem.

To prevent this problem ruin your traveling to Bali with children, I would advise you to visit your family doctor before going to Bali to check the ear canal condition. Your doctor will take any required treatment to clean the earwax, so it will not fill the ear canal when it contacting water.

Food Allergy

If you have food allergies, I recommend you to be very careful in choosing your meal. If you are not sure about the ingredients, your waiter will be happy to help you to explain. However, the chance to get the food allergy symptoms is still high if you try the local food of those ingredients do not exist in your home country.

Go to the doctor immediately if you get worsening symptoms such as difficulties to breath, rapid pulse, shock, and severe dizziness. Something that you can do prior to going to Bali is getting to know whether you and your family have any kind of allergy (food and medicine). Please share the information with your travel companion, so that they will be able to inform the doctor who treats you if you lost your consciousness due to the allergy.

Food Poisoning

This health problem is prone to young children as their immune system is not fully developed. However, adults are also exposed to the risk of food poisoning. The symptoms of this health problem include vomiting, diarrhea, cramp, and fever. You should visit a doctor if the symptoms become more severe.

As this problem caused by eating contaminated food, you should try your best to eat cooked meals and wash your hands often.

This animal-borne diseases can ruin your holiday when traveling to Bali with children. You can avoid this disease by having your mosquito repellent handy and use it as often as necessary. Avoid going to the bushy area without protection. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants if applicable will help you to avoid the mosquito bites.

See the doctor immediately if you get fever accompanied by muscle, bone and joint pain, and pain behind your eyes. This fever can be fatal if you don’t treat it well. Dengue fever in children usually do not show any simptoms, but you should keep an eye to them once they complained about the symptoms.  Generally,  people will take about seven days to recover, but it might take longer. I advise you to consult your physician in your home country to consider Dengue vaccination before traveling to Bali with children.

Dehydration

when you loose more fluid than your intake, you will get dehydration. This condition is very dangerous for young children and older adults. This condition can occurs if you do not drink enough water during hot weather and doing a vigorous activity.

The symptoms of dehidrations in young childres as follows: dry mouth, no tears when crying, no urinating for three hours, sunken cheeks, sunken soft spot on the top of the skull, and irritability. In adult, the color of the urine can be used to determinate whether you got dehydration or not.  However, you should aware that some food and vitamins can affect your urine color.

To prevent this condition, you should eat enough water an eat foods that contain much water such as fruits. Please go to the doctor if you feel the symptoms worsening, even after you try to get more fluid intake. The IV treatment might be needed to treat the dehydration.

Yup, that is some health problems that you might encounter while traveling in Bali with children. The medical cost in Bali is not cheap, especially for foreigners. For some case it might cost you an arm and a leg! So I think it would be wise for you to keep healthy and do any prevention steps required. I recommed you to have travel insurance before you go vacationing. You can go with calm heart and not worry about the medical bills if needed.

I wish you are healthy during your holiday in Bali and happy traveling!

I never believe this journey will be the best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam.  That’s why I slept in the flight. Until then I woke up from my sleep when the friendly voice of the pilot informing me the plane will reach Nha Trang.  I immediately straightened my seat and take a glance at the window. My eyes widened and I then smile.

The scenery below is truly beautiful! It is like a photo in a travel magazine! My eyes are spoiled by the green landscape of the long coastline that looks beautiful. White beach collides with soothing blue water. This touristic destination obviously will be the best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam. Nha Trang is listed on the most beautiful bays in the world!

long coastal line in Nha Trang

Nha Trang is a beach resort city in southern Vietnam famous for its beaches, diving sites and offshore islands. The main beach is a long and curved stretch along Tran Phu Street which is supported by pedestrian areas, hotels and seafood restaurants. The journey from the airport, which is located outside the city to the hotel where I stayed, was not a boring thirty minutes trip. Along the way I enjoyed the beautiful hills and the long coastal line. Remind me, this is only my first day, but I’m sure this place will become my recommendation for best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam.

Welcom to Nha Trang

Is it true Nha Trang is the best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam ? Of course, you who can judge that ! But when I read reviews in online travel magazine, clearly, this city is very famous for tourists or travelers from China, Russia and South Korea. That’s why many restaurants and shops written information in Vietnamese, Chinese and Russian. Most of them came with family (children, mother, father, grandfather and grandmother) others came for honeymoon, toured in large groups (1 bus, mostly from China) or small group of teenagers. The beauty of this beach resort is confirmed by international events, such as 2008 Miss Universe and 2010 Miss Earth.

Beautiful panorama of Tran Phu Street from Skylight

What can be done in this most beautiful bay in this world?

First day

Since I arrived at lunch time, and I eat nothing at my flight, I begin my trip by trying fresh seafood at local restaurant. Nha Trang also famous for its fisheries and farming. I choose grilled eggplant, shrimp and spinach. Nha Trang Seafood further convince me this beach resort are the best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam. They never fail to indulge your tummy.

Sea Food Restaurant

Enjoying lunch

After check in at Premier Havana Hotel, in the afternoon I enjoy the beach along Tran Phu Street. This long white sandy beach is the famous icon of Nha Trang. The contrasting scenery of skyscraper hotel buildings nearby beach, the white sands accompanied by the sound of waves and strong winds, make this street famous for tourists. Vietnamese and its government keep the street clean makes this street very cozy for pedestrians.

Before sun set

For your information, at dry season (not rainy season) the highest temperature in Nha Trang is around 27 degrees Celsius. In afternoon the weather is cooler and very windy. I suggest to bring spring jacket. There are many famous and five stars hotels along the coast. Nof far from beach there are many Seafood restaurants that serves dishes from fresh fishes on display in an aquarium or bucket. You can also find traditional restaurants that serves traditional Vietnamese menus, souvenir shops, bakery and coffee shops, and reflexology outlets. I do not try reflexology, because our tour guide informed me Nha Trang is famous for its mudbath spa, and she guaranteed I will enjoy the spa in the place I would visit on the third day.

Fresh Fishes

Tonight for dinner I indulge myself by traditional Vietnamese cuisine at Galangal Restaurant. If your visit this restaurant near Citadine Hotel at 7:00 p.m., you should wait patiently for the queue. At the front of the restaurant there is a kitchen with glass walls that deliberately shows how traditional Vietnamese menus are cooked. From the book menu, visitors can also know spices, especially what spices are used by Vietnamese people to cook their delicious dishes. Tonight I tried Pho Beef, and Vietnamese specialties made from rice flour and shrimp and Ginger tea as my drinks. What is the unique of this ginger tea? They serve tea and preserved ginger. You do not put the ginger inside the tea, but chewing it while you sipping your tea.

This restaurant only serves traditional menu

After enjoying my dinner, while trying to make my full stomach flat again, I took a leisurely walking at the pedestrian lane along the beach.

Second Day

The hotel where I stayed, Premier Havana Hotel, has tunnel which directly connecting to the beach. So it helps visitors to enjoy the beach early in the morning. I wake up before  6 am and I rush to the beach to see sun rise. After 5 minutes walk, I reach the beach and immediately took a lounge chair provided by the hotel waiting for the sunrise. It’s not a perfect sunrise moment as in Bali. I can not see the sun’s silhouette perfectly. Because here in Nha Trang sun rises from the hills or islands across the beach. But still enjoyed a beautiful tranquil morning,  only feel the cool breeze, the waves and the laughter of children playing sand dunes.

Is this near to your expectation of the best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam ? This second day my Tour Guide advises me to visit several city’s icons that are part of this city’s history. First I visit the Long Son Pagoda. The pagoda which is located at the foothills was built in 1886. This Pagoda and Buddhist monk school buildings was damaged during the Vietnam War, and was restored again in 1971. On the top of the hill there are a reclining Buddha Statue and a giant white Buddha statue. At this area, you can see Nha Trang panorama from a height. This building is still used by monks and Buddhists to worship.

After visiting the Long Son Pagoda, our tour guide brings us to Po Nagar Tower. Before reaching this temple, we passed a bridge over Cai river with a view of small boats painted blue and given eyes. My tour guide explained that it was the trust of the local people so that their boat was safe. Po Nagar is a place of worship of Champa people who are Hindus. This worship complex was built earlier than the Long Son Pagoda, which is in 781. Po Nagar means the motherland. To enter the temples visitors must dress modestly. But no need to worried. If you wear shorts or skirt above knees, they lend special clothes for free (including ticket prices). We are entertained by traditional Champa dances which in my opinion are somewhat similar to traditional dances from a region in my country, Indonesia. From the top of Po Nagar I could see the Cai river while I am sipping fresh small coconut directly from its shell.

After visiting Po Nagar, our tour guide let us visiting local traditional market, Dam Market. The market not far from the river. In this market we can buy various sweets (including the ginger I ate last night), Lotus flower seeds, cashews, fish and seafood dried with spicy chili spices, bags from Campa tribal woven fabrics, and others.

After buying some souvenirs from Dam Market, my stomach sends alarm. Our tour guide then take us to Mama Moo Restaurant. This restaurant is indeed famous for steak and lumpia (Vietnamese traditional cuisine), so I order it. This restaurant offer fusion menu, western and vietnamese. Just to remind for Asian people, I guess because there are many Russian tourists, or perhaps Vietnamese people eat a lot, most portions in Nha Trang restaurants are quite large for us Asian people. This afternoon I tried Pho beef, shrimp spring rolls and grilled squid. Yummy! Although it takes time to finish my lunch, but I was satisfied! Oh yeah, don’t forget to order a mango juice. Nha Trang is not only famous for its fisheries, but also famous for its fresh fruit. The juice served in Nha Trang is mostly concentrated and fresh.

Have you ever enjoying romantic dinner at rooftop restaurants in your city? Nha Trang has well-known rooftop restaurant and bar namely Skylight Havana. You can visit at the 45th floor of the Premier Havana Hotel. To go to the Rooftop Bar, you must buy a ticket. Ticket prices include free drinks. Up to the top, I could only catch my breath. It is a fabulous view of Nha Trang city, especially Tran Phu street scenery from the height of 45th level! The flickering lights of motorcycles and cars, sunsets, foam waves at the beach and skyscrapers were like beautiful photos on postcards. This is one of the best ways to enjoy time without doing anything. If you just married or had wedding anniversary, seems enjoying romantic dinner at Skylight can make Nha Trang as the best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam !

After enjoying the evening at the Skylight Havana Restaurant, I decided to explore the night market on Tran Phu Street. Lanterns glitter welcoming Chinese New Year along the road, making the atmosphere here resemble the Jonker Walk in Melaka.

Third Day

As our Tour Guide said to me at the first day, today we are going to go for relaxation at a very famous spa in Nha Trang. Have you ever had experience soaking your body in warm mud water? If not, you should try mudbath, and I bet you will memorize Nha Trang as the best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam ! There are several mud bath resorts, but our tour guide recommend Mudbath I resort.

The best part of your honeymoon

soaking in mineral mud ?

This resort is located not far from Premier Havana Hotel, but is located in hill area. It is only taken 20 minutes by car/ bus from beach. Soaking your body in warm mineral mud is good for health. Because the mud is a natural mud formed from geological changes. Mineral mud comes from plants such as trees, flowers, grass buried or from the ground and includes organic, inorganic, carbon-containing substances and easily absorbs water. At this resort there is a public spa and a closed VIP spa. For your honeymoon, I suggest please take VIP package so you can enjoy with your lovely spouse with privacy.

This mineral mud will make your skin smooth

The series of spa treatments at I Resort is starting from soaking your body in warm muddy water, then of course you should clean it at shower, then swimming in a Jacuzzi of warm geothermal water with a whirl, pampering your body in warm mineral water and herbs consisting of ginger, turmeric and lemongrass, body massage for 45 minutes and enjoying your lunch. After finishing the spa treatments, you will be amazed when you touch your smooth skin.

What are the benefits of a Spa with warm mineral mud water?

  1. Relieves aches and pains of muscles and joints. Inner heat from mud and geothermal water has tremendous anti-inflammatory properties.
  1. Perfect relaxation, because the mixture of mud and geothermal water removes stress from the body.
  1. Detoxification of the body. Geothermal water, a mixture of mineral sludge and spices remove toxins and impurities from the body.
  1. Softens the skin. Volcanic ash exfoliates dead skin.
  1. Heat from geothermal water and Jacuzzi jets strengthen your circulation.
  1. Balancing the body’s pH level. Complex minerals from Calistoga geothermal water are incorporated into the body of Sahabat Eksplorer, helping to balance the body’s natural pH.
  1. Massage will be more effective, because mud and mineral baths will prepare the muscles

Relax but hungry? enjoy the lunch !

After the skin becomes smoother and the muscles are more relaxed, at night I join a group to enjoy cruise trips named “Emperor Cruises”. At 5 pm we have been picked up at hotel, and the car take us to the port. The cruise sailed to several small islands in Nha Trang Bay. According to the schedule we should enjoy European-style dinners at Vinpearl Island. VinPearl is an amusement park such as Disneyland. Unfortunately because the waves and wind are quite big, we only have dinner in the cruise. A day before joining this tour, the manager of Emperor Cruises had informed the menu of snacks and dinner and asked what is our preference. For Muslim or vegetarian friends, you can tell the menu choices before the trip.

That’s the story of my trip in Nha Trang, the best honeymoon destinations in Vietnam. Why do I call it best? Because in my opinion this is the right package, not only you can play on white sand beaches, enjoy the best traditional Vietnamese cuisine and seafood, take a cruise tour, but also you and lovely one can relax at the Spa Resort trying to bathe mud with geothermal water. This trip is suitable not only for newly wed but also to you who wants to celebrate your Wedding Anniversary holiday with your beloved one.

YOEXPLORE, Onje Villa Ubud Bali – Living in a frenzied city in Jakarta has sometimes made me feel so stress that I want to get away from it. While Bandung may have become my favorite city to explore for my weekend getaway, I would prefer to explore Bali if I have more days to spend.

Apart from meeting with my family and relatives, exploring unique experiences in Bali are the things that I have always been waiting each time my husband submit a leave request to his office.

While my husband and I would usually stay at our house in Bali during the vacation, we might sometimes spend one or two nights at a hotel or villa to enjoy the hospitality services provided by hotels, resorts, or villas in Bali.

So, this time, I would like to share with you about my review when staying one night at Onje Villa Ubud Bali in January 2019.

Check out this article: Four Star Hotel in Bali, Puri Saron Seminyak

Why Ubud, Bali?

To enjoy fresher air in more secluded place is the reason for me and my husband to look for a hotel or villa on the higher ground. While searching, we were actually coming up with some ideas about the area where we would book the hotel. Bedugul, Munduk, and Tabanan were actually the first to come up since we have never tried any hotel in these areas.

However, after searching and reading a lot of reviews and checking out our budget and time, we finally decided to stay (again) in the Ubud area ☺. Ubud… you had always become the source of distraction for us each time we wanted to explore hotels in other secluded areas in Bali ☺.

Why Onje Villa Ubud Bali?

After searching and reading various reviews about some resorts in Ubud that meet our budget, my husband and I finally decided to book Onje Villa Ubud Bali.  Thanks to my membership at QLOTI mobile application, I was very happy with the deal given by this application.

So, here are at least 5 (five) reasons why I recommend this resort:

#1: The Secluded Resort with Best Surroundings

If your reason is to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Kuta city or even Ubud city, this resort might meet your need. At least that what I felt when my husband and I were passing through the road by our car to reach the resort.  I turned off the air conditioning and lower the car window to enjoy the fresh air and the green scenery along the way. Thanks to Google Map that led us to reach the resort without the need to passing by the crowded Ubud town – we were reaching the resort through the Tampak Siring route.

Rice Field - Onje Villa Ubud

My first impression when we arrived at the resort was a breathtaking view. Surrounded by beautiful rice field, this resort was very quiet, which, of course, is very good for those who want to have a bit more privacy.

Enjoy the city life of Ubud while staying at the secluded resort

Despite the secluded location of the resort, the resort is only a few kilometers away from the main town of Ubud. The good thing is the resort provides a free shuttle bus that will transport the guests to Ubud town and pick them up at certain times. Since my husband and I had our own transportation, we did not try the shuttle bus service when we went out to Ubud town for our amazing dinner at an Indian restaurant. It was not that far to reach Ubud town, which was only 20 minutes drive.

The most challenging part was actually in looking for the parking area to park our car. After going around for a couple of minutes and getting bit stress of finding the parking area, I typed “Ubud Parking Area” on my Google Map. Hmmm, I should have done it earlier!

The Ubud Central Park saved our day at that time. The location of the parking area is a bit far from the area where most restaurants are located. However, I didn’t mind walking for 15-20 minutes from the parking area to reach the restaurant. That’s better than parking the car on the side of the road! Besides that, walking before and after eating is good for our health, right?

By the way, my 15 minutes of walking was worth my time when I could enjoy the tasty Indian food with an affordable price – it usually costs me a fortune to eat Indian food in Bali☺.

#2: Comfortable Rooms

My husband and I stayed in a one bedroom villa with a private pool. The room was spacious and clean, the garden and private pool were very well managed. The elegant bathtub in the bathroom with a half-open roof style was amazing. Complete facilities, some of which are satellite LCD TV channels, coffee and tea makers, hair dryers, slippers, safes, minibars, and of course complete bathroom facilities. The welcome package is also amazing, a welcome drink in the lobby and a bowl of fruit in the room. Another thing that kept sticking in my mind was the beautiful rice fields scattered just a few steps from the front of the villa room.

The room also has a kitchen with a wooden dining table. A bit disappointing experience at that time was the unavailability of any kitchen utensil. Neither plates nor spoon could be found in the kitchen. Fortunately, the resort staff was very helpful. They brought us the kitchen utensils when I made a call to the receptionist to make the request.

#3: Enjoyable Swimming Pool

The private pool at my room in Onje Villa Ubud was very enjoyable. I spent several hours swimming in this pool. Gazebo at the side of the pool was also perfect for enjoying snacks while drinking hot tea after swimming.

I also spent a few minutes to enjoy the outdoor swimming pool in the common area of the resort. The pool is huge enough to cater to my hobby of swimming.

#4: Memorable Breakfast

For me, having quality and tasty breakfast is one of the indicators to give an excellent review to hotel service. It is also applied for Onje Villa Ubud. The breakfast served was fantastic even though it was served in ala carte menu instead of a buffet.

Fruits - Appetizer - Onje Villa Ubud

Photo: Personal Documentation: Fruits – Appetizer – Onje Villa Ubud

I had a plate of fruits for my appetizer. It consists of slices of papaya, watermelon, melon, and pineapple. There’s an additional small green lemon to be squished over the fruits. It was really opening my day with a warm spirit!

I chose fried rice for the main course. It was beautifully served with slices of omelet, crackers, tomato, and cucumber.

Pisang Rai - Onje Villa Ubud

My dessert was called Pisang Rai. It is steam banana with shredded coconut and liquid palm sugar. It created a perfect breakfast to remember. ☺

#5: Free Bicycle for Sightseeing

Free bicycle to use for sightseeing was also making my holiday at Onje Villa Ubud memorable. My husband and I borrowed two bicycles in the morning to cycling and exploring the surroundings. I did really enjoy the cycling moments. I could see amazing rice fields and the traditional houses of the villagers. In addition, I also enjoyed seeing some local people who were busy with their farming.

Is Onje Villa Ubud for everyone?

I would say depending on the purpose of your staying at a hotel. If you want to enjoy the city life of Ubud, you might find a transportation challenge if you want to stay at this resort. Yes, the resort provides the shuttle bus. However, the time constraints between the drop-off and pick-up time could be a challenge. In addition, you need to be aware that the online taxi service is not allowed in Ubud. So, be prepared to spend more money on transportation if you miss the shuttle bus. Other than this challenge, I could not find any reason that will preclude you of staying at this resort.

DISCLAIMER

I don’t get paid for this review so this is an honest review you can expect!
