Are you a foodaholic and staying in Delhi? Then you might be wondering what you should eat to change your taste buds. Well, you don’t have to worry for this because here in this post we will see which food is famous in Delhi and where you can find it.
I am in Delhi from last four years and I have tasted almost every food item which is popular in Delhi. My favourite till date is chicken-momos and the funniest part is there is no name of the shop, but I call it with a name, Chinky K Momos. She runs her stall in different parts of Indirapuram, Ghaziabad.
I guess I am diverting from the topic Without wasting a single second, lets know the famous Delhi’s dishes and the place where you can get them.
Watch this video before you read about them.
The Most Yummy Food Items in Delhi You Must Try
Before you say, what?? I tell you these paranthas of Delhi are not the same you eat everyday. They are different and much more delicious. Choose from a plain one or select a stuffing of your choice – potatoes, cauliflower, radish, eggs, keema, bananas or even dal – the options are endless. These paranthas are so appetizing that you don’t even need anything with it. But for the best taste you can have it with curd, pickles or some onion slices.
If you want to taste the best Delhi’s paranthas, ‘Paranthey Wali Gali’ at Chandni Chowk is the best place. The parantha shops of this place are very crowded, especially in the morning. So better is to leave early as possible.
2. Butter Chicken
I wish I could eat this now This is one of my favourite dishes in Delhi after Momos The perfect blend of butter, tomato, and chicken juices with tandoori chicken pieces can rise hunger of any non-vegetarian. The butter chicken is best enjoyed with rice or naan.
You can try this dish at Moti Mahal Restaurant, Daryaganj.
3. Chole Bhature
Here’s an advice for you- Please do not eat anything before trying this food in Delhi because it can only be enjoyed on an empty stomach. This crispy bhatura with spicy chole makes it one of the best street food dishes you can have in Delhi. Ask for that special chutney to put in your chole with some lemon chili pickle.
Where to get: You can find this finger licking dish at all food joints, be it local joints or restaurants, given its popularity with delhiites.
4. Pani Puri
One of the best street foods in Delhi is Pani Puri (Gol Gappa), and you can’t control yourself once you see Pani Puri’s stall. The crunchy balls filled with tangy spiced water have not only mesmerised Indians but are also flooring foodies internationally.
Where to get: One can find a gol gappa vendor in every nook and corner of Delhi. As it is the most demanding food across the country, every street in Delhi fulfills your pani puri’s demand.
A little bit of sweet and spice combine together in harmony can make Dhokla melt in mouth delight.
Where to get: If you love Gujarati food and want to taste it in Delhi only, you need to eat at Gujarat Bhawan at least once in your life.
The favourite dish of almost every non-vegetarian Delhi ite’s is Biryani. The Biryani served here is rich in flavors with saffron, aromatic rice, tender and properly cooked non-veg pieces and lots of flavorsome whole spices.Biryani joints in Delhi serve some of the best Mughalai Hyderabadi Biryani.
Where to get: You can find so many Biryani lanes at Jama Mashjid.
7. Dal Makhani
If Butter Chicken is to non-vegetarians, then Dal Makhani is to vegetarians. It’s the most demanded and supplied item from the vast North Indian Cuisine and certainly most loved as well. You can’t resist a meal of delicious Dal Makhani topped with loads of butter and that heavenly consistency.
Where to get: Masala Art at Diplomatic Enclave is famous for serving the best dal makhani in Delhi.
Here comes my favourite, Momos I think this is one of the must-try snacks in Delhi. These tasty puddings are available in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options and are enjoyed with the fiery-red sauce. Whether you eat steamed one or fried, you ask for another plate for sure.
Where to get: You can find them outside of every office building, housing area and marketplace. It is not tough to search for a Momos vendor.
Kebab is the best food item gifted by the Mughals. There is a huge variety of kebabs in Delhi — from Kakori Kebab to Galouti Kebab to Shami Kebab. All of these kebabs are full of flavors and spices. Try the kebabs with Lehsoon-Tamatar chutney to add a tanginess to the flavors.
Where to get: Alkakori Alkauser, R K Puram; Ustad Moinuddin Kebabs, Lal Kuan; Ghalib Kebab Corner, Nizamuddin; Salim’s Kebabs, Khan Market; Aap Ki Khatir, SDA-these are the places in Delhi where Kebabs can be best enjoyed.
10. Kulfi Faluda
One of the creamiest kulfi you will find in Delhi is Kulfi Faluda. This popular dessert pairs kulfi, India’s dense and creamy milk-based (eggless) ice cream, with faluda, or clear vermicelli noodles, usually dipped in rose water.
Where to get: Visit Kamla Nagar Market and Kakke di Hatti in Chandni Chowk and Kaseru Walan in Paharganj for the ultimate taste.
11. Kachori with Sabzi
One of the few snacks that is loved by the whole city is kachori! The crispy and delicious hot kachoris are served with aloo sabzi, chole or chutney to give them a tangy and spicy flavour.
Where to get: Try kachori’s of these places, Hanuman Mandir in CP, Jung Bahadur in Chandni Chowk Metro, Old Fort, Kamla Nagar Market, Baba Nagpal Corner in Lajpat Nagar, Sharma Kachoriwala in Pitampura.
12. Aloo Chaat
I think there will be a very few people who say no to Aloo and this dish doesn’t need more efforts, but the taste is so good. After boiling the potatoes they are cubed, fried, and spiced up, then served hot with toothpicks.
Where to get: Get spicy-salty aloo chaat from Hira Lal Chaat in Chawri Bazaar.
If you are in Delhi then must try these food items in Delhi to experience the best delicacies.
