In these uncertain times when our daily routine is put on hold and money can be hard to find it might be a good idea to use all this extra time wisely.

As we socially distance ourselves and stay locked in our homes it makes sense to look for ways to make some extra money from home.

Here I will look at ways that you can make some extra cash without leaving your home.

Start a Blog

A great way to earn some extra money without setting foot outside your front door is to start a blog. This can be very easy to do and there are thousands of topics you can write about.

Maybe you can blog about how you are coping with your confinement!

There are many content management platforms available depending on your budget. This website is built using self hosted WordPress.

The hosting company I use is A2 Hosting and they have very competitive prices. Check them out here and get a great discount.

See the latest deals from A2 Hosting

As well as hosting you will need a domain name. These are usually very cheap and there are lots of domain registrars available.

Usually a domain will cost £10-12 per year but you can usually get your first year much cheaper.

See if the domain name you want is available here.

You will also need a theme for your WordPress website. These can be free or premium depending on your requirements and budget. I use the GeneratePress theme for this site which has both free and Premium versions. Check them out here.

Now you have your website and you have written some content, you need to monetize it. This can be done in a number of ways such as placing adverts on your site or adding affiliate links into your content.

The easiest way to earn from advertising is to use Google adsense. This is free to sign up to and you will earn a commission every time someone clicks on an advert on your site.

You can add affiliate links by signing up to affiliate programs that fit with your content. Some popular affiliate programs are Amazon Associates and Shareasale.

You might not get rich from your blog but you might make a little bit extra and if you enjoy writing it is a great way to pass the time.

Sell on eBay

Selling on eBay is not totally an indoor way to make money as you might have to pop out to post your items but the majority of it is from the comfort and safety of home.

We all have stuff around the house that we don’t use or need. This is a great time to get rid of the clutter in your house and make some extra cash as well.

If you haven’t used it or worn it in over a year then you probably don’t need it. Be ruthless and you will be surprised how much money you had cluttering up your home.

Selling on eBay was the first way I made money online and it is still a favourite today. To find out more about how I started check out this post – Making Money Online – How I Started.

Once you have listed and sold your items all you have to do then is post them. This can be awkward if you are self isolating but a trip to the post office might just give you a break from the four walls for a while. You could always post them when you go to pick up your shopping if you want to limit your outings.

Sell Your Skills

The internet provides us with amazing opportunities to work from home and selling your skills as a freelancer is a great way to earn extra cash.

All you need to do is decide what skills you have and how you can make money out of them.

Websites such as Fiverr, Freelancer and Upwork are all worth a look. Checking out these sites might give you some ideas to what you can do.

Some examples of jobs you could do are Graphic design, Social media marketing and content writing.

The good thing about this option is that it can be done without having to leave your house at all.

Make Money From Surveys

Surveys are one of the easiest ways to make money from home. There are lots of survey sites available so you can sign up to a few different websites and increase your chances of receiving more survey invitations.

The survey websites send out invitations to fill in surveys in exchange for cash or points that can be exchanges for gift cards.

One of my favourite survey sites is Qmee. The great thing about this site is that you can cash out your earnings immediately without having to reach a payment threshold. See my in depth review of Qmee here.

I have used many different survey websites over the years. Some of my other favourites can be found in this blog post.

Now Make Money From Home

Now you know four easy ways to make money from home while you have plenty of time on your hands.

Some of them can make you decent money while others are just a bit of fun that might make you a little cash. Whichever you choose I hope you enjoy it.

The most important thing at this time is to stay safe and make the best of the situation.

If none of these ideas get you going then check out the rest of this blog to find more ways to make money in your spare time.

Finding ways to save money in 2020 is a popular subject in the current financial climate. In this guest post written by Linda Richardson you will find 5 tips to save money in 2020 amidst the pandemic crisis.

Corona Virus has engraved 2020 in our hearts with bitter memories. Unemployment, financial instability, recession, health hazards, and painful deaths – these are all things we will remember about this year down memory lane.

Indeed, lost lives can’t be brought back. That’s a permanent loss. However, much can be done to save our financial life during this pandemic.

Remember, if there is no money, it would be even more difficult to survive in 2020.

So, here we are with some effective tips to save money in 2020 amidst so many financial obstacles.

#1 Get Back To Cooking Simple Meals At Home

With millions of people struggling to put food over the table, it’s high time you stop ordering pizzas and other foods from outside. Tips, taxes, and delivery fees consume a lot of money on takeout orders. Moreover, takeout foods cost more than home-cooked meals.

Plan simple meals with a few ingredients a week. Complex meals need more ingredients and cost more money than simple ones. Make a list of the ingredients and order them online. Don’t buy processed foods and drinks as they are quite pricey. And, when you’re ordering online, try to buy in bulk so that you don’t have to shop frequently. This will help you save on the delivery fees.

#2 Manage Your Credit Card Debts Smartly To Save $

If you’re facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 outbreak, then call the credit card companies to explore your debt relief options. Inform credit card companies that it’s impossible to manage your credit card debt with the small amount of money you have.

Many credit card companies and financial institutions are offering debt relief options to consumers who desperately need them. Some of the debt relief options are given below:

  • Deferring credit card payments by a few months
  • Waiving off late fees, fines, and penalties
  • Not charging additional interest rates for the time being

#3 Save Money On Both Federal And Private Student Loans

There aren’t too many financial relief options for private student loans. However, you can call your lenders and ask if there are any debt relief options.

Some lenders may offer alternative repayment plans, keeping the current situation in mind.

#4 Ask Your Insurer For A Cheap Auto Insurance Policy

What will you do with an expensive auto insurance policy when your car is parked in the garage for several days?

Call to advise your insurer that you’re working from home and are driving less. Since your car is safely parked in the garage most days, the chances of meeting an accident are minimal. As such, you deserve to qualify for a lower premium. Ask your insurer to give you a cheap insurance policy.

Once everything gets back to normal (which will take time), consider modifying your insurance policy again.

Look at your other insurance policies as well and find out if you can lower your premiums there also.

#5 Cancel All Unnecessary Subscriptions

At a time when all of us are following the government’s ‘stay-at-home policy’, gym memberships are completely useless. So, you have 2 options.

(i) Ask the gym club owner to not charge you any fee.

(ii) If the gym club owner doesn’t agree to suspend the fee temporarily, then cancel your subscription entirely.

Cancel subscriptions for multiple video streaming platforms. If you love to watch web series and movies, then stick to one platform and cancel the other ones.

Some More Tips To Save Money In 2020

  • Don’t make any vacation plans for 2020. Stay at home or plan weekend trips at the end of the year to save money.

Conclusion

As mentioned before, 2020 is an extraordinary year. And an extraordinary year needs desperate measures to save money.

If you’re out of work or received a pay cut, then it’s important to modify your household budget and follow the aforementioned tips to save money amidst the economic downturn.

It’s time to make money from home and save it.

A difficult time lies ahead for all of us.

Finding ways to save money at Christmas is always a good idea.

This can be an expensive time of year and if you are not careful you can find yourself with a very big bill to pay off in the new year.

I love a bargain and try to save money wherever I can. In this post I will show you some easy ways to downsize your expenses and still have an amazing Christmas.

Work Out What You Can Afford

The first thing you need to do to stop yourself spending too much money at Christmas is to work out exactly how much you can afford to spend.

It is easy to just throw purchases on a credit card without thinking of the long term consequences.

Unfortunately we have been brainwashed into thinking that the more we spend, the better our Christmas will be. This isn’t the case though.

Look at the amount of money that you can easily afford and set your budget accordingly. If you are planning on using a credit card, work out when you will be able to pay off the outstanding amount. Credit card interest can be expensive so add this in to your budget and if it is too expensive don’t use the card!

When you are deciding on the amount you can afford think about the long term effects of this spending and not just the short term buzz of Christmas.

Once you have set your budget, make sure you stick to it.

Keep reading to find out how to make this budget go even further.

Stretch Your Budget

Now you have your Christmas budget set, you now need to make it stretch as far as possible.

A good place to start is to sign up to a cashback website. This will allow you to save money on any online purchases that you make.

By doing this you can shop around for the items you want and compare prices from various retailers to get the best price and get some extra cash back from the cashback website that you choose.

The cashback website I use and recommend is Quidco. A lot of the major retailers are on Quidco and most of the cashback rates are good.

You can read more about Quidco and cashback sites in the blog post Make Money Doing Nothing.

Find Out More About Quidco

Sign up for FREE.

Another way to stretch your budget is to take time to find the best prices for your Christmas gifts.

If you are rushing around on Christmas Eve then you are probably not going to get the best bargains.

Try to shop early and if possible buy gifts throughout the year so you are not spending a lot in a short space of time.

Having time to find the best price can save you a lot of money and help to keep you under budget.

Only Buy What You Need

We are all guilty of spending lots of money on things that we don’t need. This is especially true at Christmas.

One area that most people over spend on is the Christmas food shop.

This isn’t helped by inflated prices and everyone scrambling to the supermarket at the last minute to strip the shelves bare.

This can be avoided by carefully planning the food and drink that you need for the amount of people that you are catering for and where possible buying well in advance.

Items which can be frozen can be purchased well before Christmas when prices are lower and before the Christmas rush starts.

Decide on what you want on your Christmas menu and stick to it.

Buying early also allows you to shop around and find the best prices for each item.

Recycle Your Gifts

How many times have you received a gift for Christmas or your birthday and just put it in cupboard and forgot about it?

I think most of us will have done this at some point.

These unwanted gifts can be very useful though.

Just because you didn’t want the item, someone else will.

You could use these items to give as a gift to someone which will save you money buying a new gift for them. Just make sure you don’t give it back to the person that bought it for you!

If your unwanted gift isn’t suitable for anyone that you are buying for you could sell the item on sites such as eBay.

Any money that you can make on these items can go towards paying for the gifts you need to buy.

If you haven’t used eBay before you can sign up for free here.

Give Everyday Essentials As Gifts

You can save money by buying your family members everyday essential items as gifts. Things like socks, nightwear and slippers are items that you will have to buy for your children or family members throughout the year so why not give them as gifts at Christmas.

This helps offset the cost of Christmas gifts against the family essentials budget for the year.

Essentials gift ideas include:

  • Nightwear
  • Slippers
  • Socks
  • Deodorant
  • Clothing
  • Shoes/Trainers

You could also offset your Christmas shopping by giving a bottle of Whisky as a gift for Dad rather than buying a bottle of Whisky in for Dad to drink at Christmas for example.

Now You Can Save Money At Christmas

I hope you have found these tips useful and and that you use them to save money at Christmas this year.

Check out the rest of this blog for more tips on making and saving money in your spare time.

Have an amazing festive season and a wonderful new year (without the worry of how to pay off the Christmas spending!).

We all throw away tons of waste every single day but did you know you can make money from your trash?

Well unbelievably you can. In this post I will show you what sort of ‘trash’ you can sell and the best places to sell it.

Can You Really Make Money From Your Trash?

I know what you are thinking. Surely you can’t actually make money from your trash. Keep reading and prepare to be amazed by what you can sell.

Items that you and I throw away are not always useless and just because you might not want something it doesn’t mean someone else won’t want it.

Some of the trash you can sell might only be worth a small amount and other things may be worth more but whatever you can get for it is profit as you were going to throw it out.

What Trash Can You Sell

What we call trash can come in many different forms and not everything we throw away can be sold. The key is knowing what we can sell and what we can’t so let’s take a look at some examples of what trash we can make money from.

Packaging

Almost everything we buy has some sort of packaging on it but did you know you can make money from certain types of packaging?

How you sell these items and the money you can make depends on the type of packaging so for each type I will tell you the best places to sell and the amount you can expect to earn from them.

Below you will see the types of packaging you can make money from.

Aluminium Cans

Aluminium cans are readily available and either thrown out or put out in your home recycling bin.

What you might not know is that you can make money for these cans.

There are many recycling companies around that will pay you for your aluminium cans. Each country will probably vary in price but here in the U.K. where I am you will get around 40-50p per kg.

All you need to do is save them up and once you have enough just take them to your local recycling centre and weigh them in.

Empty Boxes

We get lots of products in boxes and they are quite often just thrown out but some of these can be sold and some can fetch much more than you think.

Any boxes for electronics such as iPhone and Playstation boxes can command high prices and can be sold on websites such as eBay.

An iPhone box can sell for between £2 – £12 on average depending on which model of iPhone the box is for.

A Playstation box can go for over £20 so not too bad for something you may be throwing out.

The image below shows some examples of eBay listings for iPhone boxes.

Empty Perfume Bottles

This is something I have sold myself on eBay. Some empty perfume bottles can be quite sought after and be reasonably valuable and it is surprising at what you can make from them.

The famous designer brands sell the best especially if there is a limited edition bottle.

Empty perfume bottles sell for anything from £1-£10+ depending on the type and brand.

Empty Jam Jars

Like perfume bottles, jam jars can also be sold. They are bought by people who make their own jam and preserves and sell very well.

Empty jam jars are usually better when sold in bulk so you might have to save them up for a while.

I’ve seen them sold in various amounts but are usually sold between 5-24 items at a time. On eBay you can expect to receive from around 20p-£1 per jar so if you sell 10-20 jars at a time you could be getting up to £20 for them.

I bet your now working out how much money you have thrown in the recycling bin over the past year!

The eBay image below shows how popular they are.

Toilet Roll Tubes

How many toilet roll tubes do you throw out every week? Did you know you can sell them too?

Toilet roll tubes are bought in bulk by people who like making craft items. They will usually sell for around 5-10p per roll.

These can be sold in any amount but it is worth collecting a decent amount before you list them for sale. I would suggest 50 at a time.

Again eBay is the best place to list them.

Used Plastic Milk Bottle Tops

Here is another common item that you will throw out regularly. The plastic top of your milk bottles are also bought for arts and crafts.

Plastic milk bottle tops need to be sold in bulk and will fetch a few pence each so you will need a lot for it to be worthwhile.

If you drink a lot of milk it could make you a little extra cash.

Used Wine Corks

Do you like a nice bottle of wine now and again? If so this one is for you. This is another craft item that sells quite well on eBay. People use them for arts and crafts and wedding decorations etc.

Usually sold in 50-100 units, and you can expect £5-10 per 100.

Used Ink Cartridges

Selling used ink cartridges is something I do regularly. I always sell my cartridges on eBay or through recycling websites such as Printer Cartridge Recycling or The Recycling Factory.

The price you can get for used ink cartridges depends on the brand and model of the cartridge. You can expect to get between £1-£2 each.

Other Ways To Make Money From Your Trash

Selling your trash is not the only way to earn from the things you throw away. There are ways to get rewarded for these things.

Get Paid For Your Receipts

There are websites and apps that will pay you to scan your shopping receipts. One that I use is called Receipt Hog.

This app offers points for each receipt scanned as well as other ways to pick up points.

Your points can be exchanged for cash or gift cards.

New sign ups to this app are limited. Acceptance will depend on whether you meet their target audience when you sign up.

If you aren’t successful in being accepted for this app you will find other similar apps in your app store.

Is It Worth It?

Now you know a few ways to make money from your trash we need to decide if it is actually worth it.

Whether it is worth it to you will depend on your own preferences and circumstances.

You won’t get rich from selling these items, but you will make a little extra cash.

Another reason that you may find this rewarding is the fact that you recycling some of these items. These items would otherwise go to landfill. This is also harmful to the environment.

Why not give it a go and make money from your trash today.

Survey websites are a great way to make extra cash in your spare time. There are thousands of sites available to you and it can be difficult to work out which ones are worth bothering with.

In this post I will show you the 5 best survey websites to sign up to.

What Are Survey Websites?

A survey website is a site which pays you to give your opinion on various subjects.

The surveys can sometimes take just a few minutes to complete and others can take much longer. The amount paid for each survey can also vary depending on the time it takes to complete and the website you are using.

Now you know what a survey website is we can take a look at my top 5.

Qmee

Qmee survey website

My favourite survey website at the moment is Qmee. You can see a full review of this site on the post – Make Quick Cash – Get Paid Today.

One of the main reasons I love this survey website is the fact that you can get your money as soon as you finish a survey. There are no cash out limits.

That is very unusual as usually you will have to reach a certain amount of money before you can get your payout.

Another positive of this site is that there is a smart phone app which allows you to complete surveys very easily while you are away from your computer.

New surveys are available every day and you can get notifications on your phone when new surveys are available.

There is also a chrome extension that can be added to your computer which allows you to earn money when you search the web. These searches don’t pay much, but it all adds up.

You can also sign up to offers through the site which will make you even more money so it is always worth checking them out.

Sign up to Qmee for free.

Start earning instant cash!

Greenpanthera

Greenpanthera survey website

This is another great survey site. Greenpanthera also gives regular survey opportunities which usually pay between $0.65 – $1.00.

I usually receive a few surveys each day from them but I pick and choose which ones I want to take part in.

Another incentive to join Greenpanthera is that they will pay you $5.00 just for signing up. This gets you off to a good start.

Unfortunately with this survey website there is a cash out limit so it can take a little time to get your hands on the money. The cash out limit is $30.

If you take regular surveys you should reach that amount reasonably quickly.

There are also discounts and offers from various retailers available to help you save money on your purchases.

If you want FREE cash sign up below

YouGov

YouGov survey website

YouGov is another survey site that I have been a member of since 2006. This shows that they are an established and trusted website.

They give fairly regular surveys but probably not as many as the first two websites on this list.

With YouGov you receive points for each survey taken. These points are then exchanged for a cash payout. You receive 50 points per survey and you will need to have 5000 points to get a £50 payout.

It can take a long time to see the money but it is a decent amount when it finally arrives.

If you don’t mind waiting for your cash it is definitely worth signing up.

Swagbucks

Swagbuck survey website

Swagbucks has numerous ways to earn points that can be exchanged for cash paid to Paypal or gift cards for various retailers such as Amazon and M&S.

You can earn points for taking surveys, shopping, signing up for offers and watching videos.

The amount of points or Swagbucks as they are called that you get varies depending on the survey or offer. You will need at least 800 Swagbucks to receive a £5 payment to Paypal.

This is a very popular well established website that is a little bit different from some of the other survey websites available and is worth checking out.

See What’s On Offer

Take a look at Swagbucks

Google Opinion Rewards

Google Opinion Rewards survey website

Google Opinion Rewards is an app that is available in the Apple App Store or Google Play and sends surveys straight to your phone.

The brilliant thing about this free app is that each survey is usually only 3 questions which take literally a few seconds to answer.

I usually get around 3 or 4 surveys a week from them and once you get notified of the survey you get 24 hours to complete it.

You can expect to receive around 35p per survey which isn’t too bad for about 10 seconds of work.

There is a cash out limit but this is very low at just £2.00.

Check out Google Opinion Rewards

Summary

Survey websites are not for everyone. Some people love them and some hate them.

If you are interested in sharing your opinion for a little extra cash the five sites that I have mentioned are definitely worth a closer look.

As they are all free so you can’t lose anything by giving them a try.

These sites won’t make you rich but can give you a little extra each month which is always useful.

You can also follow me on social media by clicking any of the social media links on each page.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy making some extra cash with these survey websites.

7 Ways To Make Spare Time Cash

Do you want to make some extra cash in your spare time but don’t know where to start?  Don’t think you have enough time to do it?  In this post I will show you 7 Ways To Make Spare Time Cash. Do you want to make some extra cash in your spare time but don’t know where to start?  Don’t think you have enough time to do it?  In this post I will show you 7 Ways To Make Spare Time Cash.

Sell Stuff

This is one of the easiest places to start as we all have stuff that we don’t need.  It is surprising what actually sells and there are plenty of places to sell things.

Most people have accounts with eBay and Amazon and these are both great sites to sell your unwanted items.

One thing you need to remember though is that with eBay and Amazon you will get charged a selling fee and Paypal fees etc, so always factor these costs when deciding if these sites are your best option for your item.

If you don’t have an eBay account you can sign up for free here.

To start selling on Amazon click here.

If you don’t want to pay any costs or your item is quite bulky you could try selling it through sites such as Gumtree or Schpock.   These are great for selling locally and are free of charge.

There are also lots of selling pages on Facebook that are free to list your items and have no selling fees.

Sell Your Skills

Most people can do things that some others can’t do.  This means that any skill you have might be useful to someone else.

Once you have decided on your skill you can use it to make that spare time cash.

So what skills do you have?

Maybe you are good at graphic design.  You could use this skill to design logo’s for business and website owners.  Or if you are good at writing you could write blog posts.

There are lots of skills that we don’t always think we can make money out of but thanks to the internet you can make money out of almost anything that you are good at.

Probably the best site to use to sell your skills is Fiverr.

At Fiverr you can sell almost any skill and you will be surprised at the stuff that is on there.  Anything from website design to people who will paint a message on their body and dance in the jungle (yes that is on there!).

Virtually any service can be sold on Fiverr.  To see everything that’s on there take a look here.

Cashback Sites

I have mentioned cashback sites before in the blog post Make Money Doing Nothing but they are one of the easiest ways to earn spare time cash as you don’t have to do anything that you weren’t going do do anyway.

Whenever you make a purchase online just sign in to your cashback site and receive some money back.  How easy is that?

There are lots of cashback sites around but the one I use is Quidco.

They have lots of retailers on their site and you can make hundreds of pounds a year without spending any money you weren’t going to spend anyway.

If you haven’t got a Quidco account you can sign up for free here.

Rewards Sites

Rewards Sites are websites that reward you for performing a certain task.  These tasks could be filling in surveys, watching videos, searching the web or buying from one of their promoted retailers.

One of the rewards sites that I use is Swagbucks.   This site awards points for each task you complete and these points can be exchanged for gift cards or cash to Paypal.

These sites won’t earn you a fortune but can be a fun way the make a little extra cash.

Sign up to Swagbucks here.

Another reward site that I often use is Qmee. This site offers you opportunities to make money from surveys or even browsing the web.

The best thing about Qmee is there are no cash out limits so you can withdraw your earnings to Paypal immediately.

Take a look at Qmee here.

Make a Kindle Book

If you have a talent for writing you could write a Kindle Book.  If you have a good knowledge of a subject or you have a great story that would make an interesting book then it could be a profitable sideline.

Amazon allows you to upload your book to their site so you can sell it in the Kindle download section.

There is no cost to upload your book and you receive a percentage of the selling price.

Once your book is for sale you then have a great passive income stream.

Visit Amazon for more information on Kindle Books.

Start a Youtube Channel

If you are of an outgoing nature and love being on camera then you might fancy starting your own Youtube Channel.

Youtube is now one of the biggest websites around and generates huge amounts of advertising revenue.  When you have your own channel you can monetize your videos with advertising.

The more views you get the more revenue you earn.

To monetize your channel you need to have at least 4000 watch hours on your videos and 1000 subscribers.

There are videos for all interests and Youtube Channels are very popular with gamers who stream themselves playing and reviewing games and some earn millions by attracting huge amounts of subscribers.  Gamers aren’t the only Youtube stars though, so whatever your interest you will probably find something you can make videos about.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is a great way to earn passive income thanks to Social Media and easy website creation.

All you need is to find a suitable affiliate program and tell all you social media followers about it.  If they buy the product or service through your link then you get a commission.

You could also build a website to add your affiliate links to.  If you have a blog for example you can monetize it with links to products that match the subject of your blog.

If you are building a website you will need a domain name and hosting which can be purchased quite cheaply.  You can find some great domain and hosting discounts here.

There are lots of companies that offer affiliate programs including Amazon. You can also join an affiliate network such as Shareasale that will give you access to hundreds of affiliate programs.

So find some suitable affiliate programs and start earning.
