I lost my old official NanoWriMo sign in.

So I created another.

I hope all of the followers of this blog are participating one way or another. I am still coming up with an idea for it – starting late as always and never finishing. But enjoying the process to get the creativeness going anyway.

I am normally not huge into podcast. I keep getting told I need to start listening to this podcast about coffee or this podcast about music. But…I don’t. I just try to stay away from itunes unless it is to throw some more songs on to my ipod. Well, um, I found Welcome to Night Vale and it became a fiction I didn’t know I was missing.

Anyway, a friend tagged me in a post about Welcome to Night Vale. At first I was distracted so I didn’t actually click on and check out the link until much later. After that I consumed the episodes almost overnight. It was easy to get through them they vary in time but are as short as a television episode. They’re produced twice a month by Common Place Books. It was created by Joseph Fink and Jeffery Cranor.

Welcome to Night Vale is presented as a radio show hosted by a resident and radio personality named Cecil. Cecil has a soothing and animated voice with that and his seemingly endless amount of “red shirt” interns he reports weird events as they happen in the sleepy town of Night Vale. Though he reports them as though they are not strange at all. Well, maybe a little strange. But not really.

Cecil is in love with a local scientist and makes it known through many of the radio shows. He hates racism and cultural appropriation. He is weary of tiny mute children that stand next to him when he is recording. Oh, and he will go through a dark blue portal if it is presented to him in his studio so he can make friends with his evil doppelganger.

Needless to say I really love Cecil. He’s a fantastic character.

I am a huge fan of Night Vale the way it is written/heard(?) kind of reminds me of Strangetown (from the Sims 2 series). Night Vale is a cozy (but rather expansive – it seems) town in the desert surrounded by a forest full of people who became trees and is ran by a shadow government. The residents of Night Vale are kept “in line” by a secret society of hooded figures and the sheriff’s secret police. There is also a giant glow cloud that likes to drop lion corpses on people and also thinks Night Vale has an excellent school district.

Night Vale reminds me of if all my favorite dystopian novels read some current political blogs then dropped some acid and then smoked some peyote with Jim Morrison in the desert as he wrote some songs for his album.

My life has been super insanely busy lately. I’ve been working with editors to get more things published and ready for your views. I have also been being busy working and picking away (with each paycheck) a lot of my student loan. Oh and I’ve been reading too.

The week before last, I took a few days to read a few cheap books from google. Including The Hunger Games trilogy. And also that slightly horrible John Green book every girl on tumblr is in love with. The Fault in Our Stars. I’ve barely been on the internet and when I have it has been for a quick blurb on my emotional-vomit blog or to look at my student loans and cry softly to myself.

Some pretty lame stuff happened since I last posted. Including a pretty distressing break up that was later fixed. Also some really awesome things happened most importantly fixing and making solid my relationship. I am all about clearing the air and making relationships strong.

It is very important to me for my significant other to trust me. Without trust you have nothing to build on. I am someone who has never lied to anyone about anything in her life. Just thinking about not telling the truth or telling a half truth makes my stomach queasy. If someone asked, “Megan, does this make my butt look big?”

I’d say, “Honeyface, your butt is big. That is why I love you.”

So for that fact it makes me uncomfortable to think my relationship lacked trust. Which for a few moments it did as it slowly came apart. Coupled with a few drinks on my boyfriends end and a misread message – you have a recipe for a break up. After some long talks about what was it worth saving in the relationship, my absolute blunt honesty about things, and a casual coffee hang out to kind of wrap it all up – we’re better than ever in the relationship front.

One thing that I can give my boyfriend credit for is that he tries. He apologizes when he is wrong and accepts my apologies when I am wrong. Let’s just be real, I have had a couple really shitty boyfriends in my past who were far from the fixing-relationship types. More like the destroying-my-will-with-well-timed-manipulation-and-lies. I can say with all confidence that Ryan is not among them and I am thankful that we had the break down because I think it made both of us see how much we did really care for one another. It also gave me a chance to see how he succeeds where his predecessors had failed in just being a real stand up guy.

(Our first hug upon seeing each other after the break up involved him licking my forehead like a slobbering dog and me nearly vomiting.)

So recovering from that stress from my break up plus all my crazy busy important job duties has made me sort of disappear in my blog life. I do care, a lot, but I just have had a lot on my plate.

I recently got a poem called “I ran into Death last night, he dropped his books,” published in an anthology of weird poems. This anthology is put out by the publishing company, Chupacabra House.

I’d really like you to read my poem and send me comments or critiques on it if you’d like. You can do that by pre-ordering it for 9 dollars from Chupacabra House. When it comes out it will be 10 dollars so if you want to wait it won’t go up much. But it is a very limited print so act quickly! I want to make sure my supporters and fans get copies of things I am in as well as every other poet in that book.

“Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.”

There has been three days between my $289.70 payment and today. When I scheduled this payment my interest for all combined loans was around $15.00. Today I looked at it to see if this payment had gone through and the interest instead was $36.00. I had to get on Income Based Repayment and I can’t tell if I am better off or worse than I was. But considering the amount I can pay a month $200 ish, is less than what I would rack up in interest in a month, I am probably going to ultimately do worse.

Paying interest on a loan is like going to the pound and adopting a dog. Taking that dog for a walk after you’ve glued one hundred dollar bills to every inch of his fur. Walking him to the middle of no where. Then unhooking his lead and ushering him off into the horizon, never to be seen again.

Right now I make more than I will be next month when I will be officially salary at my job. My salary? 250 a month, plus 250 rent credit. So ultimately $0 will be paid on my principle balance a month and all my monthly salary will go into my interest.

It is almost like I start to build a bridge from one sand island to another. Then two steps on to the bridge a big wave comes crashing by and knocks my bridge and the sand from my island away. Each time there is less and less sand. I feel like I am going to drown here. Like there is no escape. There is just me and an endless expanse of emptiness. Just me and then a million granules of sand that added up to nothing at all.
