As a working mother with toddlers, I always have to be on top of my game to maintain a work-life balance. This means I can’t afford being laid down by health issues, especially the common ones related to metabolism. I am talking about indigestion, constipation, and the likes. They seem trivial, but if they occur regularly, they can take away a lot of my productivity, which I do not take as mundane. Hence, I pay very close attention to my metabolic health for myself and my children. Ensuring my body’s metabolic health is optimal since women are more prone to constipation as well, I am always on the lookout for the best supplements that can enhance metabolism. Recently I came across a supplement product that fits that bill perfectly. It also ticked several other boxes for me- the convenience of use included.
Zencoso balls are a natural product designed to aid metabolism. It is produced from a mixture of various fruits, vegetables, grains, and herbs. It is made in a form that you can easily chew. This is a feature I find incredibly convenient and attractive as the kids, and I can better enjoy it that way, not to mention it is more portable and trendy that way. The other great thing about Zencoso balls is that it was designed to cater for a wide range of preferences. It’s a verified and certified halal product. This chewable ball-like supplement is also totally derived from plant sources. So even if you are vegetarian, you can still enjoy the wholesome goodness it offers.
Zencoso is a delightful mix of fruit, grain, herbs, and other natural products fermented over a while to properly extract their beneficial components. Contained in these fruits and spices are many enzymes and other nutrients derived from more than 75 plants. I should mention here that the beautiful selection of plants used to make Zencoso balls is another favorite thing. A number of these enzymes play essential roles in metabolism. Some of them are involved in helping your intestines better absorb food, and in the process enhance digestion to prevent constipation, others are enzymes involved in the breakdown of ingested food into nutrients that can be utilized by the body.
Zencoso also contains several enzymes that are relevant in detoxification processes in the body. Our bodies are always accumulating toxins, so that last bit comes as a welcome boost. Enzymes that are involved in energy production are also found in Zencoso balls. The perks to this are that your body is now better able to work more efficiently and generate energy at a higher rate than before from the food you eat. Aside from being a source of metabolic enzymes, I found out Zencoso boosted metabolism because it was a source of fibers. These fibers are required in food to enhance their motility along the gut. Where fibers are deficient in the diet, constipation is likely to result.
Zencoso balls from the Belixz product line by BE International are a natural product; replete with components that boost metabolism. Our metabolic well-being is an essential component of our overall health. Therefore, if you want to remain healthy, you should pay close attention to your food intake and always try to improve with the use of top-notch, reliable supplements like Zencoso balls.

If domestic abuse is as traumatic as being portrayed, then why do many women stay in an abusive relationship? To better understand, we need to know that domestic abuse happens because of the desire to gain dominance, control, and power over a partner. Admittedly, domestic violence does not discriminate against gender, race, or social status. However, statistics have shown that more men are perpetrators of abuse, and women fall victim to violence.
The Women’s Aid Organization describes domestic violence as a cycle. It says that the cycle begins with tension building, followed by the incident of abuse, reconciliation, and then calm in the relationship. Domestic violence happens between partners with intimate relationships. And abusers conduct different strategies to destroy the self-worth of the victim. Abuse can be in different forms, such as physical, sexual, emotional, financial, social, and psychological. Perpetrators will use more than one type of abuse to ensure that victims become fearful and incapable of leaving the relationship. The victim will then be coerced to behave just as the abuser wants. But the most crucial information that women need to know is that no one deserves to be abused.
Some women will have a difficult time processing the abuse that is happening to them. Looking into the cycle, there is a period where an abuser will apologize, deny, or minimize the incident of violence. Abusers will hide in the guise of alcohol, blame the victim, or claim that their action is nothing to worry about. A honeymoon stage or calmness follows the cycle. During this stage, the abuser may be fantasizing about the next move. So how can a woman identify if she is in an abusive relationship?
Perpetrators of domestic violence chips on the victim’s feelings of self-worth. The process starts with the perpetrator yelling, humiliating, and criticizing their partner in front of the victim’s family and friends, and even putting them down at every chance they get. They will ignore their partner’s accomplishments and opinions. And they will blame them in every abusive incident that happens. Perpetrators treat their partners like an object that they can control.
Abusers have unpredictable patterns of behaviors, which usually involve jealousy, possessiveness, and condescending, demeaning words. They threaten their partner and children. They would restrict them to visit friends and family. They will threaten to commit suicide if the woman leaves them. They would destroy things relevant to their partner. They will force women to have sex or to use drugs. And they limit their partner’s access to money, car, or phone.
An abused woman is generally fearful of her partner. She is walking on eggshells when her partner is around. She will avoid topics in a conversation that she knows would anger her partner. She will continuously check her behavior to find approval. And when the incident of abuse happens, she would convince herself that she deserved it. She will struggle with the feeling of being crazy, helpless, or uncaring of her circumstances.
Leaving an abusive relationship will be a difficult decision for victims. Perpetrators usually minimize the abuse or blame the victims. This results in an underestimation of the danger and the effect of abuse on victims and their children. So the first way to get help is to learn the signs of domestic abuse and the rights of women. A woman must accept that she is in a dangerous situation and that she needs help. She needs to know her worth and stand up for her and her children.
A victim of domestic abuse needs to find support from trusted friends or family members. Someone who can help get more support from the community, police, or shelter. Government authorities and/or the police are trained to respond to domestic violence. A hotline for help is also vital at this time. A woman should never hesitate to call support and not wait until another incident happens.
With the help of a support person, a victim needs to develop a safety plan when violence occurs. The plan should be as detailed as possible and should include the children. A safety plan can consist of means of transportation, money, and change of clothes for quick departure. A counselor or the police can help with the safety plan or rescue operation, including actions to take during tension building. They can also provide referrals for shelter or a place of refuge.
Injuries as a result of physical and/or sexual abuse should be appropriately documented with the help of medical evaluation. This will serve as evidence when legal action is the next course of action. This is also necessary to help with physical healing from the injuries. Counseling and therapy are also needed to help with the trauma caused by the abuse.
The most important help we can give victims of domestic abuse is to believe them. It’s essential to validate their feelings and help them reestablish their self-worth. We can also get involved by connecting the victim to authorities such as the police. We can also help with the movement against domestic abuse like MummyJene. Values are what separates good people from bad people. It is our standard of what is wrong and what is right. And these values are taught and instilled through our childhood from our parent’s discipline. Discipline is a system of values that parents teach to their kids. Often, emotions are high during a period of discipline. It can either be anger, sadness, tension, and even tears. But discipline is an essential component of a child’s development. It helps them develop emotional health that promotes motivation, self-control, personality, and decision-making. All of these make them socially and emotionally mature individuals in the future.
Some parents think that punishment is a form of discipline. The truth is, the regulation doesn’t always have to use punishment. Punishment is only a means to support a parent’s discipline system. It usually comes in hand with rewarding to either negate bad behavior or reinforce positive behavior. This is according to the Operant Theory of BF Skinner. The theory revolves around rewards and punishments, also called by BF Skinner as positive and negative reinforcement. This means that we can strengthen the type of behavior we want from others through punishment and reward.
However, experts warn parents about the use of reward and punishment as a system of discipline. They say that it can be counterproductive when expected penalties are not given for undesirable behaviors. Or if rewards are not appreciated by the child. The most important factor when thinking about reward and punishment for discipline is the outcome. Rewards should reinforce positive behavior, and punishment should decrease the likelihood of an adverse reaction. Some parents who can use this type of discipline system can reward and punish by merely looking at a child. This is achieved by ensuring that the family values are the same for everyone, including the parents. The family should have similar values and respect for each other.
Parents know that discipline is also hard for them because of emotions involved, especially when correcting bad behavior from a child. And sometimes, the fear of crossing the line between discipline and child abuse prevents parents from implementing their discipline system. Intended punishment may be compromised and will reinforce bad behaviors instead. To be able to know the difference between discipline and child abuse, a parent should consider the intention of their actions. In many court proceedings, when determining child abuse, the court determines if the parent has the intention to hurt the child. Because discipline usually ends before an injury happens to a child.
An example of this particular scenario is when parents inflict injury to a child, such as bruises, fractures, or when the child gets traumatized. Discipline is intended to teach a child about the right behaviors. When parents punish a child or hurt a child for the intention of instilling fear rather than teaching, then this is classified as child abuse. Also, a punishment that is not appropriate for a child’s age is child abuse. And even punishment because of unrealistic expectations from a child is considered child abuse.
While the word discipline system poses the feeling of scientific methodology, it is a lot easier. It only means that discipline constitutes consistency and several ways to impart lessons to a child. And it should never be hard because your values are what you impart to your children. A problem will only arise if the parent has their own behavioral and emotional issues needing therapy to heal. But otherwise, when a family has learned values and acts harmoniously, discipline becomes less forceful and peaceful.
Overall, the value you give yourself as a parent is what translates to your children. Thus, it’s crucial to invest in your wellbeing. When parents have an unhealthy outlook, have difficulty building relationships, have a negative self-image, and unmet emotional needs, it becomes easy to cross the boundaries of child abuse. While constipation can cause a myriad of symptoms–we remember the bloat, and discomfort around our stomach region. Even in severe cases, mucosal tears to the lining of the gut, at its core, constipation is simply a problem of movement. After the intestines absorb part of the food we eat for the body’s use, the rest is sent the way of the waste disposal unit- that is, the rectum empties it via the anus. The critical thing to bear in mind is that throughout all this, from ingestion to defecation, food is continually moving, pushed on by a propulsive movement of the gut called peristalsis. Proper food training with a healthy balanced diet is essential to maintain gut health and function.
But what happens when food moves too slowly? Constipation occurs with its many unpleasant effects. There are many reasons why food may move too slow: the nerves innervating the intestine may not be functioning correctly, a part of the gut might be blocked, it could be due to hormonal issues. But the reason could be and is in many cases, something more straightforward than that. It could be hiding in your food. Or more aptly, missing from your food. The reason for you feeling constipated may be due to your diet lacking in fibers.
Fibers do not seem all that important at first sight, and it may be difficult to believe that they are essential for proper gut motion. You may even raise a brow when you are told to add fibers to your diet to help solve your constipation. You tend to wonder, “fibers?” instead of some wonder drug. However incredulous it seems, the insufficiency of dietary fibers is a primary reason for constipation. Fibers have no nutritional value as they can not be absorbed by the body. That should ordinarily rule it out of contention for a place in your nutritious servings. Yet, paradoxically, it is for this special quality that they become more critical in your meals, especially if you’re a woman. Fibers are divided into two kinds: soluble fibers and insoluble fibers. Each in their way plays a vital role in the digestive process, but insoluble fibers are more important for preventing constipation.
Insoluble fibers (also known as roughages) consisting of wheat, cereals, and the skin of many vegetables and fruits will help to bulk up the food in your guts. When food is bulkier, it stimulates peristalsis better, so the gut’s propulsive movement to push food along is stronger and more frequent. Therefore, enabling smooth movement of food within your guts. Insoluble fibers also retain water in the stool, making it softer and more comfortable to pass. Inadequacy of insoluble fibers in the body can result in the movement of food slowing down and thereby causing constipation.
Many of us are simply not putting enough fiber in our meals. Yet, as I have explained, an inadequacy of fiber in the diet is a leading cause of constipation, a prevalent digestive issue. It is not tough to draw a link between the widespread dietary fiber deficiency and the general levels of constipation. However, I would recommend paying more attention to our dietary fiber intake because, in turn, that is paying attention to our gut health.
So what can we do about constipation? I found a cool solution that comes in handy. I’ll tell you all about it in the next article.

Like many of you, I also came to this crossroads when I got pregnant with my first child. But at that time, I was not ready to leave my career. So my decision making focused on how to make it work as a career mom. But then my son turned out to be sickly, and so I was back to the same crossroad. This time, the force to be a stay at home parent is more urgent than the first. My friend Marie has a different scenario. She immediately decided to be a stay at home mom (SAHM) when she learned that she was pregnant. But throughout her journey as a SAHM, she battled with mental and emotional issues. And so she felt that going back to work will help her.
But how do we decide whether to be a stay at home mom or a working mom?
This is a tricky question, and there is no one answer for it. This will depend on where you are right now. Whether the kids are still young or are almost to college. And how about the status of your savings. When doing the math, you will realize that you will be able to cut back on expenses as a SAHM. But you will also significantly lose one income. Don’t stop in the “we can’t afford it” response though. Push your envelope and think of ways to augment the loss of your income. The internet has offered a more extensive option for women. Businesses can be done at home, and so does work. It is an option that you might want to look at.
Let’s be real on this one. When stay at home parents return to the corporate world, they face the competition of much younger seekers. They are fresh out of college with newer skills to offer. And they are more idealistic and passionate. The same is true for moms who are desiring to return to work after a period of being a SAHM. Career pathing does not only rely on experience -though. This is where education or training can save you. Plan and take the necessary steps to get continuous learning. This can be done through distance education or out of pocket training.
The most important people that would affect your decision will be your spouse and your children. How will daddy cope-up with the single earner for the family? Or who will take care of the children when both mommy and daddy are at work?
Different situations have led us to the same crossroad. And yet, there was no one correct answer. And so I’d like to say that your decision is the best one for your family. You will always be the perfect mom for your children, whether you are a stay at home or a working mom.
At the end of the day, we only do what is best for our children.

Like many people, I enjoy an iced drink on a scorching day. We all need that chilled refreshment from the heat–I certainly do. However, did you know some people have a strong urge and craving to chew on ice every time? Not because they are looking to relieve from the heat but because they have a compelling urge to eat ice. I found that weird–I mean, why would someone want to eat ice all the time? However, there are people with that condition, and the term for that habit is pagophagia.
Now, what causes pagophagia? It’s certainly not for the nutritional benefits – I mean there are more meals which go easier on the stomach and teeth than ice. Ice is not food anyway. So why would someone feel the urge to eat ice regularly? Well, I found a few reasons why.
Pagophagia is often linked to iron deficiency with or without anemia. Experts aren’t sure why, but there is an iron deficiency present in many cases of pagophagia. So look after your mineral levels people and ensure you aren’t at risk of being deficient in any essential minerals- iron included. Our diets should be tailored in such a way that it provides adequate amounts of these crucial nutrients. Calcium deficiency has also been suggested as a possible cause by some- even more reason for me and you to eat healthy and nutritious food.
Another factor I found out linked to pagophagia was eating disorders. Here’s a possible scenario depicting how that might play out: A person has an eating disorder, making them extremely calorie-shy. However, they have to eat something to satisfy their hunger. How to eat something without increasing calorie intake? Well, some settle for eating ice, which by the way, contains virtually no calories. I think it’s a poor choice, though, as ice is non-nutritious, in addition to posing risks of teeth damage. Besides, ice is no substitute for food.
A third possible cause I discovered had an emotional and mental health component. The compulsive desire to eat ice may be symptomatic of depression and other mental health conditions. Mental health conditions come with a broad range of symptoms, and eating ice has been pinpointed as a possible symptom. Several researchers also believe it may have something to do with bacterial infection or even possibly be genetic.
Okay, so pagophagia is a weird habit, but can anything be done about it? Well, while I was looking it up, many possible palliatives or even curative management showed up.
For one, if pagophagia is due to an iron deficiency, steps can be taken to boost iron levels in the body to overcome the nutrient deficit. These can include diet modification, iron supplements, or treatment of any condition likely to cause iron deficiency. When the iron deficiency is managed, the pagophagia due to it is hopefully put under control too. Other nutrients like calcium should also be boosted.
If pagophagia is due to mental health issues, then behavioral therapy is a possible management option. The mental health specialist will likely offer guidance and support to help those with it manage it properly. Other modes of treatment may also be under consideration at the discretion of the mental health expert.
So there guys, pagophagia is not very common, but it does exist. I have shared some possible causes of this post’s condition and what can possibly be done about it. However, the best option for managing pagophagia is with a medical expert’s guidance, so always refer to them in situations where it arises.
