Humans and dogs aren’t so different, we both eat when we are bored and we both can put on weight when there is so much time and nothing to do. Both you and your pets need to be active and while dogs whom overindulge in food somehow seem to be even cuter, unfortunately for us humans this doesn’t apply.  From the small cavalier king charles, to the larger golden retriever, all pets need regular exercise.

If you and your dog are at the point where you both would rather lay down than go out for a walk or run around the park, then it is a sign that you both need to be more active. Fortunately for both you, the hardest part is getting off the couch and starting your new active lifestyle, once you get into a routine it will become much easier.

Diet

home_made_apple_pie_smoothie1In fact, this is the time that you should start getting more serious about your diet. Start by reducing the amount of food you and your dog eat each day. Switch out the junk food for healthy alternatives. For humans and pets alike, a good example is instead of eating high carb or fatty foods after a walk or run, try having one of these weight management smoothies that you can also share with your dog.

Additionally, instead of feeding your dog its normal food, try buying one of those high fiber, low calorie prepackaged dog food.  You might want to find food specific to your dog’s breed, for instance if you have golden retriever, you would want to find formulated dog food for golden retrievers and larger breeds, and the same goes for medium and smaller breeds.  While they are a bit more expensive than the normal feed, it can certainly help your dog lose weight. But enough about you and yours dogs diet, let’s get into the different ways you both can start exercising to get fit.

Go for a walk or a run on the beach

One of the best ways to start you off on being more active is by taking a walk in a scenic place like a beach. Not only is the salt in the air good for your health, but also the sand and water can help vary the exercises intensity. As running on wet sand is easier then running in a low amount of sea water or running on loose sand. Different terrains can increase the intensity of the exercise for both you and your dog. If you two are new to exercising start off with a walk on the wet sand then once you build up your fitness make your way up to walking or running on the other surfaces.  A water resistant collar could be a good investment. It is great for beach adventures and it won’t have that permanent “wet dog odor”. Just rinse it off, and you’re good to go.

Go for a swim

Bring along a tennis ball and find a clean body of water that you and your dog can swim in. Throwing the ball in the water and going for a swim yourself can increase your fitness and can also help strengthen and tone your back and your dog’s legs. Make sure you two are drinking enough water throughout the day and after your swim.

Play fetch outside

This is one of the oldest and easiest ways to get you both active. Walk down to your nearest dog friendly park and play fetch with one of the many dog toys that I’m sure you already have. Alternatively I always like to bring a Frisbee or tennis ball and do a few walking or running laps of the park while actively engaging in play time.

In a nutshell, diet and exercise are the combination that will lead you and your pet to a path and future of healthiness, enhancing and extending both your lives for many more years to come.

We live in a fast pace society and want answers fast, so the answer as to whether you should give your dog hemp is a or not resounding yes! Both CBD hemp oil and hemp seed oil are fantastic ways to improve the health of our fur babies in a multitude of ways. You can give them just one or both oils to increase the therapeutic health benefits.

But CBD hemp oil and hemp seed are different despite both being derived from hemp and they both have different health benefits, so let’s not waste anymore time and find out why you should be giving your dog hemp.

CBD Hemp Oil

If you could only give your pets one derivative of hemp it should be CBD oil. CBD (Cannabidiol) has pet owners raving about it and it’s easy to see why. CBD can help dogs with both temporary and chronic health condition that range from relieving mild pain to preventing seizures.

Cancer, epilepsy, anxiety, and inflammation are just a few reasons pet owners are giving their pets CBD. And the list of ways CBD can help goes on and on.

So, you’re rightfully wondering how the hell it helps with all these different medical conditions. Is it snake oil? The answer is no, and I’m not going to proclaim that CBD is a miracle drug despite its many therapeutic benefits either.

CBD works great for so many illnesses because it promotes and engages an internal system, known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which plays a vital role in homeostasis. Think of it as the body’s natural check and balance system. This system consists of various receptors and neurotransmitters and is found in you, your dog, and well . . . every single mammal on this plant. Scientist now believed that the endocannabinoid system first evolved in animals over 600 million ago!

Many people see the overwhelmingly positive benefits and end up taking CBD oil for themselves as well. Which is great since it works for us in the same way. CBD also attaches to a few other receptors that when activated relieve stress, pain, inflammation, and promote general well being.

Now, while CBD results in a better and more peaceful mindset, it’s not doing this in the same way or to the extent that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) does. THC is psychoactive, which is what causes the high when smoking marijuana. CBD is non-psychoactive and will not get you or your dog ston.

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil is derived from cold pressing hemp seeds, and while it does not contain CBD, that doesn’t mean it’s not great for your health.

Where CBD hemp oil is great for specific and more serious chronic health conditions, hemp seed oil is great for improving your pet’s general health. Hemp seed oil is rich in omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids as well as being rich in protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and insoluble fiber.

Hemp seed oil is even better than fish or flax seed based oils because it has the perfect ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 (3:1).

What this all means for your pup is:

  • Healthier skin and fur
  • Stronger immune system
  • More energy
  • And promotion of a healthy weight

Is there anything I should worry about when giving hemp to my dog?

Hemp is one of the safest things you can give your pet, but as with all things, there are things to be on the lookout for.

With hemp seed oil, you’ll want to watch the high-fat content, and while it’s healthy fat it can still cause some issues such as diarrhea or weight gain if you give too much.

For CBD hemp oil you want to make sure it’s derived from hemp and not cannabis. CBD derived from cannabis contains THC which in high doses is toxic to dogs. As well you’ll want to check with your veterinarian if your pup is already on any medication as CBD may affect the absorption of RX drugs.

Why not make it easy and give both in one!

CBD oil is very concentrated and needs to be mixed with a carrier oil to dilute it. So, make sure to check out Innovet pet store because they mix use hemp oil for their carrier oil making for a fantastic one-two therapeutic powerhouse.

Ever wondered what your dog is doing when they are interacting with other dogs? Sometimes it can be really frustrating not knowing whether to step in and stop your dog or let the activity go on. You’d be amazed how many people misread their dog’s behavior and yet it’s actually pretty easy – when you know how!

To understand your dogs behaviour grab the FREE E-book here https://www.terriertrainingtips.com

Some of the key gestures that you can watch out for to understand what your dog is thinking:

The Head Over

Placing their head over the back of another dogs neck.  This is one of the most common ways a dog will attempt to assert their dominance over another dog. It is neither good nor bad. Some dogs however will contest it if they are not happy being dominated.

Returning To Play

A dog returning to play more with another dog. This is a sign that suggests a dog is happy to play. Often this simple behavior is overlooked by dog owners. Many times a dog may look like they are not enjoying things as they are being dominated and pushed around but is actually very happy and will run back for more!

Lifting One Paw In The Air

The dog stands still on three legs.  This is a fairly submissive gesture that says I am submissive and nonthreatening. The other dog may react in a number of ways but it is generally a good sign.

Hackles Up

The hair on the dogs back goes up. Very often people think that this automatically means that the dog is being aggressive or going to be aggressive, however it can also just be excitement. It does mean that the dog is very alert but this can be because they just love playing with other dogs.

360 Degree Spins

The dog completes a complete spin.  The dog spinning will almost certainly be very happy and will be trying to encourage some play activity. When a dog turns their back on another dog it shows that they are relaxed and not scared.

Correct dog grooming will help to sustain the health of your pet and make him look attractive. As the owner of a dog, this is one of the most important things to do.

To understand exactly how crucial grooming is, think about how you would feel and look if you didn’t trim your nails, comb your hair or bathe for several days in a row.  If you are a pet care provider, you might want to read this article about insurance for professional dog groomers.

Dogs always feel neglected when they are not groomed frequently and correctly, just like we feel when we forgo having a haircut, trimming and cleaning our nails and bathing. It is vital to appreciate how important correct dog grooming is to your pet’s general health and overall appearance.

One reason to groom your pet regularly is that it is often quite hard to determine whether your dog is ill. Grooming the animal frequently will ensure that it is healthy, removing most of the guesswork. Of course, unlike other members of your family, your dog can not inform you if he does not feel well.

Cleaning your pet’s teeth and combing his hair are a couple of tasks that ought to be performed frequently, and proper grooming will lower the probability of illness. Notwithstanding, it is vital to speak to a vet straight away if you believe that your animal is ill or something is not right.

Why it is Important to Brush Your Pet’s Teeth

Regularly brushing your pet’s teeth will help to stop gingivitis. Lots of dog owners are unaware that gingivitis sometimes affects dogs that are three years old and older if they do not have their teeth cleaned frequently.

Credit southhyland.com

Your pet might develop severe health conditions if he contracts gingivitis because it will stop the blood from getting to his most vital organs. Ask a vet to inspect your pet’s teeth on a regular basis, as well as brushing them yourself thoroughly and frequently, to stop gingivitis from developing.

Why it is Important to Brush Your Pet’s Coat

Remember that your pet requires more time to have its’ hair brushed than you require – the hair you have to brush is only on your head. In contrast, obviously, your pet has hair all over its’ body. One reason for frequent brushing is to stop matted hair. Often, this can result in painful and unhealthy sores on the body of your dog. Also, your dog’s matted fur can become an environment where ticks, fleas, and other unpleasant parasites can appear.  In matted areas, use good scissors or good dog clippers to remove problem areas.

Why it is Important to Clip Your Pet’s Nails

You might have seen photos of people who have long fingernails. For whatever reason, these people have decided not to cut them for years. In all likelihood, you cut your toenails and fingernails frequently, because they feel uncomfortable and look unattractive if you do not. Obviously, lengthy fingernails can cause even simple tasks to be rather challenging. Dogs with nails that are too long can find it difficult to run. The uncut nails sometimes cause injuries too. A key aspect of your pet’s grooming regimen ought to be to trim his nails.

Consider how crucial grooming is to humans, and what you would feel like if you neglected to trim your nails or brush your hair for numerous weeks or days. Grooming is even more important for dogs, so as a dog owner this is something you should prioritize.
