The Homeless World Cup is a world-class, annual, international football tournament that uses football as a catalyst to help people who are homeless to change their lives; and to change the attitudes of governments, media, public and key influencers to create better solutions to homelessness around the world.
The global event unites teams of people who are homeless and excluded from society to take a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent their country in an unique street soccer tournament.
At the sixth Homeless World Cup in Melbourne on December 1-7, 2008, 56 nations will be united for the biggest Homeless World Cup ever, including the first women?s cup.
The Homeless World Cup has triggered and supports grass-roots football programs in over 60 nations engaging 30,000 homeless players each year.
The event?s legacy will be the roll out of 30 street soccer programs across Australia.

New reports from an international team of scientists have revealed that Arctic sea ice is set to disappear during the summer within the next five years as a consequence of climate change. As reported in The Age and on ABC Television?s Four Corners, the team of leading ice and snow scientists is warning that the ice in the North Pole is melting away at a much faster pace than originally and recently predicted. In early 2008, new information about the loss of Arctic ice prompted the US Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne to list the polar bear as an endangered species because its populations face possible collapse within a few decades as a result of global warming. Many scientists continue to express concern that, unless we achieve profound global reductions in greenhouse emissions within the next two decades, we will reach a ?tipping point? of irreversible and catastrophic climate change. As Australia prepares to introduce an emissions trading scheme in 2010, these emerging reports only serve to strengthen calls for Australia to act responsibly and urgently on climate change, if we are to ensure we pass on a healthy country to our children and their children. Before the end of this year the Australian Government will propose a 2020 target for reducing Australia?s spiralling greenhouse emissions. Consistent with urgent advice from leading international scientists ? the UN?s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ? ACF is calling on the Australian Government to set legally binding national targets to cut greenhouse pollution by at least 30 per cent by 2020 (from 1990 levels). The Body Shop is asking its customers to ?Act Beautiful? by adding their name to a campaign by the World Society for the Protection of Animals [WSPA] to help improve the lives of animals worldwide.
WSPA is calling for a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare at the United Nations, similar to previous UN Declarations on global issues such as human and child rights. The UN statement would acknowledge animals as ?sentient? (capable of experiencing pain and suffering), and animal welfare as an issue of importance as part of the social development of nations worldwide.
Acting beautiful is easy, from 22 September to 13 October, sign the petition for the Declaration in-store at The Body Shop. Or visit www.makeyourselfbeautiful.org.au to give your friends and family a makeover with a special ?virtual ink pen? and encourage them to sign the petition too.
The Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare is a global movement to improve the lives of animals. Signing for the Declaration recognizes that animals can feel pain and that we have a responsibility to put an end to animal cruelty. 10 million signatures are being sought globally to let the governments of the world know people are serious about creating better lives for animals. Polly Caldow, Chief Executive for The Body Shop Australia is delighted to be partnering with WSPA for the ?Act Beautiful? campaign.
?The protection of animals is something we have always been extremely committed to campaigning about. It is one of the values that make up The Body Shop?s DNA. We see the Declaration as the next important and logical step in the journey towards securing animal rights and protection,? Ms Caldow said. ?At The Body Shop, we believe by acting beautifully, a person?s true beauty is revealed,? Ms Caldow added.
The Body Shop has been vital in helping to bring about an end to animal testing in the cosmetics industry, and their policies against animal testing are regarded as best practice by more than 50 leading animal protection groups who endorse the international Humane Cosmetics Standard. In 1991, with the help of four million customers worldwide The Body Shop were instrumental in securing UK and European bans on animal testing for cosmetic purposes.
Emily Reeves, WSPA Campaign Manager points out that everyone from governments to individuals, have a responsibility to put an end to animal cruelty around the world.
?Many millions of animals face a life of mistreatment, cruelty, pain and suffering as a result of human indifference, neglect and a lack of education. The time has come to protect billions of animals from cruelty by officially recognizing their importance and their welfare at a global level,? Ms Reeves said.
Signing for the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare is a simple, beautiful act, which has far-reaching effects. By showing that animals matter, you can help WSPA build a global movement and reach their target of 10 million signatures worldwide. With one signature, one beautiful act, you can help WSPA work towards achieving the Declaration and ending animal cruelty for good.

Step 6: Steph the crafty media kit overlord, enlists the Values team into a sheltered workshop to make boxes. It was hard work and we were really afraid of making mistakes on her watch. She does make a mighty fine media kit though, as the second video demonstrates - thanks Steph!
Step 5: Yay! Thanks to Louise at Clemenger Blue (WSPA's Ad Agency) we got some good looking labels and we even managed to stick most of them on straight! (Sometimes we surprise even ourselves). Looking good don't you think?
