A new game has now gone closed beta. AirMech is a chrome-based game, as Bastion, and it adds some interesting new features to the strategy genre. It might be too early to review, but this is what I think: The gameplay The gameplay is a lot like most strategy games. All players have fortresses, and the goal of the game is to destroy all enemies’ fortresses. Along the way there’s placed some control points. These act like small fortresses owned by a neutral AI, until a player takes control of it. This is done by sending in your so called ‘creeps’. These spawn at your fortress together four and four with some time interval. Each control point has four lamps on top. When all lamps are your color (one creep enters = one lamps switches to your color), you have control. Your personal transformer You build units like in any other game, but the way you control these is very unique. This is were your AirMech comes into place. Your AirMech is actually a transformer. Your have to stages: one airborne, one on the ground. When your AirMech is airborne, it can pick up units and fly them around the map. When placing you have the ability to give orders. These include: attack, hold position, patrol path etc. When airborne, your AirMech can attack other AirMechs, and eventually shoot them down. Your AirMech levels up during a game, and for each level, you can upgrade your AirMech. An upgrade can as an example be heat-seeking rockets. When your AirMech is on the ground, it can shoot enemy units. This unique feature allows you to take part in the action. Customization, menu and ‘freenes’ AirMech is supposed to be a free game. But, as it is with many ‘free’ games, you can buy upgrades and such for real money. But everything considered, I actually think they have found a great balance, since you can still play for free, even though upgrades will cost ‘ya. The menu It’s easy to navigate through the menu, and customization is easy as well. To the left you see how you can customization different layouts. You can customize your pilot, special item, AirMech, 9 slots for different units, and your color. Speaking about the units, Carbon games have made some great units. They have given each of them special roles, and this makes any strategy game even better. It gives the player a chance to play very strategically. Conclusion This game looks very promising, and it’s already caught me. It has some bugs (which it totally cool in a beta), and the internet-based games seem to lag (this will hopefully get fixed fast). A part from this, I think it’s a very solid game, it’s got some great units in it, and good animations. This game deserves a lot more attention. Why don’t you try it out yourself? Last week we submitted a post about Valve confirming Steam for Linux in development, you can find link at the bottom of this post. Well it was certainly no surprise when the CEO of valve announced that they are looking for skilled Linux developers. My friend from Steam for Linux wrote a email to Valves CEO Gabe Newell, concerning the release date of Steam for Linux. They ended up talking about the poorly formatted OpenGL for Linux – here is a excerpt from Gabe Newell’s answer: 1. L4D2 runs multithreaded at 250 ? 300 fps on my Windows 7 machine. Single threaded it?s ~180 fps. On Linux it runs at 25 ? 30 fps with the same NVidia GTX 580 video card (after getting them to fix some things), and around the same on a ATI 6970. 2. Good tools to track down OpenGL performance and help debug rendering issues just don?t exist. We want to fix this. It would be nice to have people who have experience with Linux work on it. So basically what he is asking for is experienced Linux developers, taking up the challenge of formatting the openGL system used in Linux. Is that you? Well get to work then! Yesterday, the long awaited trailer for the new Assassin’s Creed was released. This is apparently pre-alpha footage, and we are not told too much about the game itself, even though we could find some info in the YouTube video description, I quote: Assassin’s Creed III is the opening chapter of two new stories: one of Connor, the newest Assassin, and one of a new nation, both in an epic fight for land and freedom For all we know the game will take place in Boston, and you will take part in the famous Battle of Bunker Hill. See for yourself: How do you feel about the game? How do you like the fact, that’s the game is happening under the civil war? Rating: 5.0/5 (1 vote cast)

Introduction Over the past few years, the demand for wireless internet has multiplied. People are tired of dealing with internet cables in addition to the power cords. It all leads to cable clutter, something not many internet users have the patience to deal with. Wireless networks provide high speed internet connectivity without hassle. This is why the number of people seeking wireless internet has increased. While an increase in demand is good news for producers, this seems to be an exception. The rising demand does not bring about a corresponding increase in revenue. Yet, wireless network carriers cannot afford to alienate their users. In this day and age, customer relations are essential to the growth and profitability of a business. Push away one customer and a mass exodus ensues. This is an awkward situation for carriers to deal with. Costs Should Be Reduced According to some industry experts, the network carriers have to reduce costs in order to sustain profitability. Since they don?t expect revenue to increase, they should cut corners to ensure they don?t make a loss. The cost of providing wireless connectivity to customers is not going to decrease in the near future. Hence, the carriers have to find other areas of their operations where expenses can be reduced. However, cutting costs means that the carriers will not be able to provide the same level of service as they are doing at present. Some of the largest carriers serve millions of customers. Retaining and serving their clientele with lesser resources is going to be extremely difficult. Customers are going to expect high speed internet round the clock. Else they have plenty of other options to switch to. Does Competition Matter? The rising costs of operations are one area where the wireless internet carriers are on equal footing. Each one of them has to deal with the rising costs. The volume of demand for wireless internet is so high that all of them can tap into it. But they don?t have any incentive to do so, given the fact that the revenue is not going to increase. The number of top of the line wireless network carriers is still low. Only a handful of them serve the needs of the populace. Unless new companies start up and cater to the demand, the responsibility has to be divided between the carriers currently in operation. This is a grey area for the carriers. At this time, competition hardly matters. Increasing the Prices Obviously, the only option left for the wireless network carriers is that they can increase the prices for their services. This way, if they take on more customers, their revenue will increase as well. This is where the competition comes in. None of the carriers would be willing to raise prices unless all the other carriers agree to do so as well. Increasing prices would mean driving customers away and there isn?t a lack of options for them to choose from. The issue with raising prices is that it...
