RSS Feed Inspiration: Craft Books

How many of you love to curl up with a cup of coffee and flip through a craft book or magazine to "imagine all the DIY project possibilities".  I love nothing more than thinking of craft projects I could make, or sew or knit.

Often, browsing and dreaming is therapy simply enough for me.

Yet, for those super industrious this week, what about making a snazzy, little book mark that will ear mark a special little treasure.  Or for your most recent book, adding a new fabric DIY bookmark to add sparkle your day.

RSS Feed FREE Pattern: Retro Fabric Oven Mitt for Mom's Day

Thank you friends at Sew 4 Home!  My oven mitts are looking so worn lately and this DIY craft is the perfect pick me up!  We love the idea of using our favorite fabrics to coordinate perfectly with our kitchen colors.

First click here to download your Free Pattern.  Download and print our pattern sheet: Retro Fun Pot Holder Pattern
And for detailed sewing instructions, pop over to the Sew4Home website.

We think these make stunning hostess gifts, mother's day presents or fabulous Christmas gifts (hmm, I do always love a homemade gift!)   We've picked out some fun fabric combinations, starting with the zippy and oh so chic Chevron Fabric (Keep in mind, you can use scrap yardage as you only need 1/4 yard of fabric for each side, plus bias).

Sew Happy!  We'd love to see your handy work so remember to e mail us with your finished mitts!

RSS Feed Cute His and Her Pillow Tutorial

Share the love!  This very New Girl look is fun, peppy and best of all, easy to make!!  Pillows designed by fashion blogger, kooky Kinsey gives everyone an cinchy tutorial to follow.

Transform your nest and bedding with these whimsical and fun pillows.

Pick your favorite fabric for the core fabric and a simpler fabric for the heart.  Select a fabric (a small, ditzy floral fabric will work if subtle)  that will clearly showcase the "His" and "Hers" lettering.

RSS Feed Handmade Horse Pillows

Our new favorite blogger de jour is Emma from A Beautiful Mess.  She reminds us of Zooey Deschanel of the New Girl fame and someone we are convinced would be our BFF!

In the meantime, Emma has shown us how to make this sporty equestrian horse pillows.  Super easy and fun for a kitschy cabin or if you are simply Wild about a Horse Themed room.

Plus her pillows are so easy to make that they are a fun weekend DIY project and would be a perfect gift for a pony lover. These can be made using any color or textured fabrics from brown or peppy pink fabrics

And if you are a knitter, than the extra yarn you have comes in handy.  Take an Instagram shot or Pin It on Pinterest and let us know how your pillows turn out.

RSS Feed DIY: Fabric Covered Mousepad

Courtesy of Going Home to Roost

Happiness. We discovered this easy to do DIY project on the Going Home to Roost site.  A brightly colored, fabric covered mousepad is an instant desk remodel and somehow makes type-weary fingers happy.

Plus, this project is so simple that you can make several and have a stunning personalized gift to give to your blogging friends and family.

Follow these steps to make:
  1. Place your mousepad on the fusible web liner
  2. Trace around mousepad with your pencil
  3. Remove the second liner (NOTE: check to see which liner removes first by peeling apart at the corner).
  4. Stick the fusible web to the wrong side of fabric (wrong side is the side you do not what to see on the finished product) .
  5. Cut out the fusible web and the fabric together along your traced line.
  6. Peel off remaining paper liner (leaving the web on the fabric
  7. stick to the top of your mousepad- line it up perfectly!
  8. Press for 10-15 seconds with your iron on medium heat (NOTE: the mousepad could be sensitive to high heat, test a small area first or better yet  lay down a piece of fabric on top of the mousepad for added protection).

RSS Feed DIY Happy Baby Quilt Bunting Banner

Courtesy of A Pretty Cool Life
We love how bright and happy this baby quilt looks in a nursery.  Simple and classic (and a cinch to make!).

Friends at A Pretty Cool Life have given you an easy-to-follow tutorial

Plus, it is a fabulous way to use some of your favorite fabric scraps.  The design is so neutral too that you'll be able to bring out different color palettes.  (We love a pop of orange or teal)

Play around with some of these polka dot fabrics or any colorful color palette you want.  Keep in mind, we are happy to send Free Swatches so call us and ask us.

In truth, you can't make a mistake as this pattern is so versatile and perfect for either a sweet baby girl or boy!

Have fun and happy sewing.
