In recent years, the internet has become the destination of people looking for a way out of the nine-to-five rat race that they can no longer tolerate for various reasons. There’s something fun and exciting about the idea of logging onto your computer and tapping into what seems like a pretty cool way to make a living. I mean, you can be hanging out in your living room wearing nothing but your pajamas and a worn out pair of fuzzy slippers, while generating oodles of instant cash. Is that really how it works? Yes and no. The reality is that the fun and excitement of pursuing your dream of making money online will wear off pretty quickly. People who come online thinking that they are going to be making thousands of dollars in a matter of months are in for a major disappointment. Don’t Believe the Hype As soon as you dip your toe into the swirling waters of the “I wanna make money” world, you’ll be surrounded with an endless variety of hype and unrealistic promises of easy income. I’ll tell you right now, if you want to have any chance at all of making any kind of real money online, put your hands over your ears and tune out anyone and everyone who claims this is going to be a cake walk. I know, this is easier said than done. Believe me, I’ve been there. My head would be telling me that this offer is too good to be true, but my desire (desperation?) to make big bucks would lead me to go down that easy-as-pie road time and again. What did I get out of it? Nothing but creating more frustration for myself and wasting good money. Don’t kick yourself if this has happened to you – it happens to pretty much every single person who is seeking to figure out how to profit from the internet. This is part of the learning experience. Eventually, you’ll be resistant to the hype, but right now you are a newbie and, therefore, very vulnerable to the siren calls of the opportunistic predators. So, where do you start? You start by seeking out credible information about what this online business thing is all about. You can do this for free by visiting internet marketing forums/blogs/websites and reading lots of freely available information. The following forums are highly recommended: Warrior Forum Webmaster World Digital Point I know you probably want to rush into something and get going, but patience is a virtue in this case. The fact is, you don’t even have a clue about what it is you even want to do online yet. It might take you a month or so to get an idea of what activities you find interesting. There are so many options to choose from that many new people suffer from information overload. If this happens to you, don’t worry, it’s quite common. You will need lots of good, solid information before taking the next step on your online journey. You will need to learn from those who have gone before you and have experienced real, tangible success online. Of course, there’s a lot of folks claiming to be wildly successful, who are lying through their teeth. The ability to determine who is truthful and who is full of bunk takes time. If you have doubts about someone’s claims, you can always go to a forum and ask others what their experiences were with this person. Take all claims of success with a grain of salt, until you can verify that they are credible. Reputation is everything online. With a good reputation, you can achieve great success. Those who have ripped people off, or have shady dealings, don’t last long because others will expose them for who they really are. Newbies like you are fresh meat for the opportunist. Try to keep a level head as you wade through the jungle of online marketing. There are some really great people who can teach you a lot, as well. The trick is to not get discouraged before you find these great resources. Getting started online can be tough because there are so many decisions you have to make. Do you need a website? What kind of website? What should you call your site? Do you want to use Adsense? Do you want to promote affiliate products? Do you want to sell products on Ebay? Do you want to create and promote your own products? Do you want to learn PPC advertising? How much money do you want to spend in getting set up? Do you want to create a blog? What’s your blog going to be about? Do you want to use social networking (web 2.0)? Do you want to start an email newsletter? Do you want to write your own articles? Do you want to use PLR content for your website? What kind of marketing tools are you going to use? Do you want to create and sell software to other marketers? Do you want to create membership sites? Do you want to promote CPA offers? Do you want to build Squidoo pages? Do you want to create and sell websites? Do you want to make money from domain names? Do you want to build a long-term business online? Look over this list carefully, and start thinking about what it is that you may want to do online. This is your first task. Once you make a decision on what you want to do, then you can move on to the next step of figuring out how you are going to do what you want, and how it is going to make you money.

Do you like to generate some quick cash? Stop searching for information about making money online. There are many different ways to male money online and some are more difficult than others. Let’s face it, many people that first come online and find out they could make a few bucks realize really quickly that it's not all that easy. There are a lot of sites out there that will let you purchase information that you can use to learn how to make money using the Web. Each site promotes a different way of making money online. Some may talk about affiliate marketing, others discuss how to use their blogs or the power of Web 2.0 and yet others review how to use AdSense and PPC (pay per click) to boost their business. In all cases, the new and aspiring Internet marketer is confused, lost and all too quickly fed up and frustrated after just a short time and most likely a ton of money they feel was thrown out the window. And yet, making money online doesn’t have to be difficult, you don’t even have to have a website, your own products are not needed and you don’t have to run a massive affiliate program of your own to at least make some money to help you get started and you can quickly plug that hole in your wallet where all those precious dollars have been falling out of. One of the simplest and quickest ways to get started generating some revenue online is to use articles coupled with affiliate marketing. Here’s a simple guide to help you get started: 1. Head over to Clickbank (search for clickbank using Google) and take a look at the many products waiting for you to promote them. There are a few things you might want to look at while you are browsing around the Clickbank marketplace. Clickbank has a pretty good guide that will tell you how to differentiate between products that are performing well and those that are bombing. Here’s one simple tip to keep in mind as well. As you look through the pitch pages, think to yourself for just a moment, if I were interested in this product, does this page even grab my attention? Would you be likely to purchase what you saw? Once you have picked out a couple of products you really like, consider purchasing them so you can provide high-quality reviews of them. If the budget is tight, that sometimes isn’t an option, so you will have to make note of the features, benefits and any other important information you got from the sales page. 2. Write one article. Yes, that’s it. Write one simple article that features some of the key benefits of the product you will be promoting. Keep it simple and don't make it look like a sales page. For example, if the product you plan to promote is about Planning Your Wedding, you could write your article based on "The Top Seven Things To Keep In Mind When Planning Your Wedding" and then list the seven things from the sales page that are related, such as Choosing The Location For Your Reception, How To Avoid Relatives Embarrassing You, How To Keep Your Bridesmaids From Looking Like Clowns. Whatever the information you found, write it out in a bullet point list and then add a few short sentences to each bullet point. It doesn’t have to be fancy, short and sweet works better. For example, if you are working on Choosing The Location For Your Reception, you could add a sentence or two about the things to keep in mind if you are planning an outdoor reception. 3. Use The Resource Box. If you go look at some of the popular article directories, such as eZineArticles, you will find at the bottom of each article a section known as the Resource Box, also called About The Author. This is your place to shine. Your article was to the point, without any sales pitches, but now in this last part you are free to tell a little about yourself and if you have a website you can add a link there too. You can also suggest a helpful solution that could further assist the reader with the challenges of planning their own wedding. Keep in mind that you only have a few lines for the resource box, so you will definitely have to rewrite it a few times just so you can tweak it and get it just the way you want it. Ultimately, the goal is to have the reader click the link at the end of your article and purchase the product you are promoting. So make it straight to the point. A simple and yet effective example might be: "For more helpful information as well as awesome ways to save hundreds if not thousands on your wedding visit youraffiliatelink today". Again, you don’t want it to be fancy, but your call to action has to make sure the reader has no choice but to click the link and hopefully the sales page you are referring them to is good enough to close the deal and earn you some referral commissions. 4. Use Article Directories. If you go to Google and type in Article Directory, you will find hundreds of different websites where you can submit your article for inclusion. There are other ways to spread the word about your new article, but directories are a quick and easy way to get the word out there and they are all quite easy to use. Just search for the article directories and then submit your new article to as many as you can. If possible, try to submit it to at least 20 or 30, but the more the better. What will happen is that webmasters, bloggers and newsletter publishers that search through these directories will come across your article and if it’s a good match for their readers and visitors they will be inclined to post your article on their website, or publish it in their newsletter and they will include your Resource Box, along with the link to the product you are promoting. This has the potential to get your article very quickly on thousands of websites, in front of tons of newsletter readers. You don't have to spend a single penny for all this exposure and advertising, you don't have to have your own fancy website or subscriber opt-in list and you don't have to create your own product. This same method has been used for quite some time very successfully and has in many cases returned more than just a few hundred bucks within a couple of weeks. In some cases, a single article has returned over a thousand dollars in a month and the best part is that your article will continue to be out there, week after week for others to see, click your link and order the product, making you more commissions. The final thing to help you get started is when you’ve gotten this far congratulate yourself. You have done more than many of the people "day-dreaming" of making it online; you’ve actually done something about it. Now get back over to Clickbank and find yourself another product to promote, start back at step 1 and have fun making money. I know it held me back for nearly two years before I finally saw it. You don't need to take that long :-) Learn from my mistake today and succeed. I wanted to title this article The Ultimate Secret To Your Online Success. But I suspected that not many people would actually believe the claim. As I wanted as many people learn from it as possible, I settled for a less catchy but more believable title. I consider what I 'discovered' the ultimate secret not because you can't find it anywhere. You can. In fact many successful people talk about it quite openly. I do consider it a secret because it took me almost two years online to discover. It stared me right in the eyes the whole time, yet I couldn't see it. As far as I was concerned it was hidden from me. Then after two years of struggling to make any decent income online, it was time for some deep soul searching. I had my back against the wall: It was either turn it around and start making money online, or go back to my old career. For a while I also considered selling one of our homes, but my wife and I decided that this was a dumb idea. Selling a house was not going to solve my problem. It would only prolong my online agony. What I really needed was to discover what I was doing wrong for the past two years, and change it. Otherwise, I was quite prepared to go back to my successful computer programming career. (But I just didn't like the idea of working for someone else again.) It didn't take me long to discover what I was doing wrong. And this brings me to the ultimate secret: LASER FOCUS If you have been trying to make money online and haven't been very successful, you can probably relate to some of the following. While still at my old job, I discovered the world of the online marketing. Got quite excited about the possibilities. I did some research and have invested in what I considered to be the best ebook on the subject. Few months later when the opportunity came up (or so I thought at the time), I decided to become a full time online marketer. I also decided to specialize in affiliate marketing. I really applied myself the first couple of months or so. Then I discovered another great book on affiliate marketing. Bought it. Then I discovered this great tool that would help you not only create great looking affiliate websites, but would also tell you what you needed to change on each page in order to make it optimized for search engines. I really liked the idea, so I bought the tool. Slowly but surely, I was becoming more and more confused. Which guru do I follow? All three approaches worked. But I had to know which one worked better (I'm very analytical by nature ;-) ... Instead of following one, I began to follow them all. I lost my focus. As I lost focus, my search engine traffic stopped growing. As my traffic stopped growing, my income stopped growing as well. I started becoming more and more frustrated and searched for other, "better" ways of making money online. Then I discovered that another affiliate marketer got quite successful buying ads on Google. I had to find out how. Bought that ebook too :-) It only started getting worse from here on. Over the period of little more than a year, I managed to spend thousands of dollars on various Internet marketing ebooks and courses. Most of them were really good. I always do a pretty thorough research and rarely am unlucky enough to buy rubbish (although it does happen occasionally). The problem was not with the materials I bought, the problem was that I didn't apply any of them long enough to see the full results. I wasn't following any one expert for long enough to give myself a fighting chance. I was too distracted. In short, I lacked FOCUS. Affiliate marketing is one of the greatest opportunities on the face of the Earth. And so too are dozens of other methods of making money online. Search engines do reward with free traffic those that apply themselves diligently. Yes, you can make money with Google AdWords, if you stick with it and study it hard enough. Why am I telling you all of this? It certainly doesn't give me any satisfaction to talk about my failures. The only reason I wanted to bring this up is to make you aware of what you are probably doing wrong yourself. Please learn from my mistakes. Life is simply too short to make all of the mistakes yourself. I want to save you months or years of frustration. Once you waste that time, it's gone forever. Not to mention the financial and emotional cost. You need FOCUS. Not just any type of focus. You need LASER FOCUS. If you look at a 40 Watt light bulb, all you see is a nice, soft light, probably not strong enough to light up an average size room properly. But you take the same 40 Watts and put it out of a laser gun, and what you will discover is that this FOCUSED beam of light can cut through various objects like a knife can cut through paper. Wow. Same amount of energy, different focus. LASER FOCUS. Focus means, doing only one project at a time. Focus means, bringing your current project to fruition, before you embark on another one. Focus means you stop buying every new ebook or PHP script that comes out - which you often do out of fear of missing out. Focus means unsubscribing from all ezines, except one or two that you consider the absolutely best ones for your particular situation. Focus means not wasting your time surfing the net. At least not until all of your tasks for the day are completed (and even then you need to put a strict time limit on it). The day you regain your focus, your life will change around. Mine has. May the focus be with you. When it comes to developing a money making pricing strategy with stock trading, the basic principle investors should learn is when to hold the stocks and when to sell them. As stock trading is becoming more and more popular every day, there is no doubt that people find this vehicle of making money one of the most comfortable ones. However, choosing a group of stocks is only half of the deal. Making the most out of your chosen investment is the other part, and this is where your strategy interferes. Even if you apply it to the right opportunity, the wrong strategy will not only produce increased risk, but also decreased profits and sometimes losses. Therefore, understanding and putting into practice a proper strategy is essential if you want to make money online. The first step you should take once you begin looking into online investments is getting the advice of professionals in the field. You will only end up with a functional strategy if you are either very experienced in stock market trading or if you go over your moves with a stockbroker. This way you will benefit from online stock trading information at your fingertips and in real time. You will easily gain access to technical charts, information sharing and real time prices which will help decide you when to act. Secondly, you will be successful in making money online if you follow a strategy based on quickly acting on price moves. Given the speed of information nowadays, you are able to take advantage of the most recent developments only by clicking a couple of buttons. If you have a full service brokerage, you will generally have to call first, explain what you want and then wait for their advice on the issue. While this is certainly a low-risk approach, you may also miss the best entry point by the time you get back from your broker, and pay a commission for that. Finally, one of the best ways of coming up with the right strategy for online stock trading is to adhere to the general trend. If you will keep up to date with the latest information in the field of stock trading, you will certainly come up with the right strategy which will stand to make you money over time. For instance, many financial experts recommend the buy-and-hold strategy, which requires potential investors to buy stocks and allow them to increase on the long term. However, although patience may be a virtue, stock market crashes affected most those who held their stocks too long, so once again you have to make sure that you know when to buy, but also when to sell. The potential to make money online is huge. A website or blog can be a store front to everyone in the world. Imagine selling a product or service to 500,000 people. Even if you sold something for $2 dollars, simple math dictates you have just made $1 million dollars. However, the trick is to have 500,000 people walk into your store front. Plus, once they walk into your store front or website, they need to have a desire to buy your product. How do we accomplish this task on the internet? If you are new to online marketing, here is a golden nugget to success. Start with something simple and build your store front over time. What do I mean by that statement? I mean you need to have a starting point and stick with it. Do not be overwhelmed by all the possibilities in online marketing and things to learn. Let me give you an example. Something simple would be to create a Blog. Make this Blog on a subject that you are passionate about. Something you would want to write articles to place on the blog. However, it has to be a very popular subject that will receive a lot of traffic. What are some of the most popular topics on the internet? Popular topics include: Dating, Making Money, Green products, etc. You can do a keyword search on Google Keyword Tool. Go to the Google search engine and type in Keyword Tool. It should come up at the top of the list. Type in the key words to the subject you desire. The Keyword Tool will tell you an estimate of how many people are searching for information on your topic. Go to http://Blogger.com or http://Wordpress.com and open up an account to create your blog. Blogging is simple and fun. If a blog is new to you, don’t let it intimidate you. The key is to keep clicking that mouse and reading the web pages. I call it putting in “Mouse Time.” Mouse Time is very important in the learning process. Once you have created a blog, do to Google’s Adsense. You can insert this kind of advertising on your blog and make money. People use AdWords from Google on a Pay Per Click (PPC) basis. For example, a business may pay 20 cents per mouse click. If someone comes to your blog and clicks on the ad, you are awarded 20 cents. Now imagine 100 people clicking on that same ad on your blog. You just made $20 dollars. What would happen if you got 1000 clicks in one month? Can you see where this is going? Blogging is free and Adsense is free to join. You can not lose. I encourage people just starting in online marketing to try this strategy and build a business from that foundation. A blog can eventually have banners to sell items, or point them to other affiliate businesses you have joined, or sell them an audio book, etc. The possibilities are huge. Much success in your online endeavors. About the Author John Harding is the webmaster for Best Affiliate Markets.
